Once in a while I am so utterly embarrassed to be on FR that I almost can't endure it. This is one of those times.

If DU can produce the most bleeding heart moonbats per pixel, then sometimes this place can produce just as many hard nosed, merciless, self-righteous, arrogant legalists.

This woman obviously didn't know that drinking too much water could kill her. Neither did many who have posted here. That does not make her an idiot. It means she was likely pretty normal, since the average person doesn't know that either.

In none of the several reports I have read on this news item is there mention of a husband or father of these three now motherless children. So you think Jennifer Strange was being greedy, do you? Perhaps she was hoping for some way to provide something special for her kids that she could not afford on her own. Perhaps they just had a very lean Christmas and this was all she could do to make up for it. Most likely she would have gone out and bought them the Playstation if she could have afforded it. Do kids absolutely need a Playstation or any number of other such items? No. But how many of your own children are given things they don't "need"? I would venture to guess that all of them are at one time or another.

Some of you people have Brillo where your hearts should be. So this was not the most intelligent thing to do. It was mostly a senseless tragedy, like crashing your car while eating a burger. Yet you have not a modicum of compassion for the family. You mock this poor woman like she deserved to die like that, with all your stupid Darwin Awards comments. Like none of you have ever, ever done anything ridiculous or silly yourselves--only you didn't get caught, so you can post haughtiness like some of what I've read here today. Feel justified? Proud of yourselves?

That radio station owns as much responsibility for what happened, if not more. I'm tired of fellow conservatives giving corporate entities a free pass for every wrong they commit. Just as individuals, they are accountable for their actions. I hope they get slammed over this.

Who's the real greedy party here?

She was someone trying her best to do something nice for her kids.
She probably couldn't afford the gaming system - and so she gave it her all in this contest.

By the time she realized something was wrong, no one was around to help her.

You said it. I posted earlier about a case in the early 80's of a man dying from water intoxication; he read that drinking water could eliminate cancer and he literally drank himself to death. Over the years, in talking to people, I would say that with rare exception did anyone I've told that story to ever hear of water intoxication. I happen to enjoy science and read quite a bit but most people don't. I hope the radio station does something for her children because I agree that they should have looked into the consequences of asking people to drink water. However, they probably had people sign releases.
