I'm a resident of Columbus, so I'm biased of course. But let me just say that I've been worried against a few of OSU's opponents this year (and even predicted UM would win), but I have no real worries about this one. The key ingredients are Tressel's entire approach to preparation, and Troy Smith's brain. Smith's game preparation is very underrated. If the game comes down to the final 3 minutes, and Buckeyes need to march 80 yards, I have full confidence in Troy. OSU fans have to see that he is the best Buckeye QB ever.

I think far more of us agree that a playoff is the only real answer.

I agree.
I was *mostly* kidding about USC...however in a playoff I would like their chances.

Tonight, I gotta go with Florida 17-7...for the shock value.

IMO, everything comes down to whether or not Ohio State can pressure Chris Leak. If Florida can protect him, then they can make it a close game or maybe even win it. If Ohio State can harass him all night and force him to throw under pressure, then it could get ugly fast. The Gators will absolutely have to establish Deshawn Wynn and Percy Harvin as threats early on in the game to keep Ohio State's defense "honest", so they can't just pin their ears back and go all-out after Leak.

While Meyer does have Tim Tebow to fall back on if Leak starts making bad throws, I'd expect Ohio State to be able to defense him well, as most teams did toward the end of the season (unless, of course, Meyer has cooked up some new and inventive ways to use him). But he's still just a freshman, which means that he can't be expected to be able to carry the team all on his own. In a year or two, yes, but not right now.

I'm going to be rooting for Florida, of course, and win or lose I'm going to be very happy with this season and looking for the Gators to be really dominant next season. But if I had to put money down, I'd have to pick Ohio State to win and to cover the spread.

Prediction - Ohio State 31, Florida 21.

Turnovers could be decisive in a Florida-Ohio State match-up, too. Urban Meyer teams typically have excellent turnover ratios. It's an understated strength. Meyer really rides his kids hard to hold onto the ball when they are on offense and to force the other team to fumble or throw into coverage when the other team has the ball.

He did it here at Utah (I'm a Utah alum). His practices were legendary for their intensity and for his insistence on perfect execution and all-out effort on each play.

I'm looking forward to a great game. Maybe Leak is at long last due to put it all together full-up and square to his considerable potential.

If not, as you say, it could be a long afternoon for the Gators.

Mmmm, nope. If they were, they would be undefeated right now.

I hope Ohio State is as overly confident as you are.

If they are, a Gator's gonna take a hefty bite out of buckeye patootie.

Well one good thing. At least Tommie Frazier isn't suiting up for the Buckeyes. :)

Being undefeated is irrelevant to the BCS...ask Boise State. ;)

True. I say give tBSU a consolation championship, perhaps the AP.

Boise State deserves it if they beat OSU or Florida, instead of the winner of arguably the weakest division in all of Division 1-A this year.

Hey now, I wouldnt say all of D1A, I still like our chances against the Sunbelt conference and possibly the MAC.

Next year though, watch it the Big 12 will be the it conference, just far too much talent to stay bad for long.

Big 12 this year, 0-14 against ranked teams outside of the conference. Ouch!

Also I would like to add that the Big 12 North had the unfortunate luck of having to play teams wildly in disproportionate to there standings so its not unreasonable that they would all have lost.

Now the South is a different story.

Yeah....

Last year the USC/Texas game had a thread fully 10 days earlier than the actual game.

That was quite a shellacking; 62-24 was it?

If you listen to the pundits, Tommie Frazier ain't got nothin' on Troy Smith.

Smith's a cool, smart quarterback and the Buckeyes form an impressive supporting cast. Still, Ron Zook's Illini--of all teams!--came closer to beating Ohio State this year than Buckeye fans care to have anyone remember.

On any given day . . .
