Amazing, just leaving you awestruck at the end of it. Like this one, a lot of people went to bed that night when BYU was down 20 points with less than three minutes left. McMahon was BYUs quaterback then. All of those guys, Dickerson, Craig, and McMahon went on to great NFL careers.
Except this, we can never forget the heroic and amaziong game played by OU with their comeback from the 18 point deficit, only to lose it in a heartbreaker with BSU's grit, determination, and in them pulling all of the tricks out of the bag to get it done.
And that proposal at the end...what a cap to an unbelievable game.
That was so exciting. I watched it with my son; the last thing we did together before I had to drive him to the airport.
That had to be the best college bowl game I have ever seen.
I grew up in Oklahoma and was an OU fan until I attended Oklahoma State University. Later like most OSUers, I/we would back the OU teams, when they played other teams.
Last night at first I was cheering for OU. Before the end of the game, I was cheering for Boise State. The end of the regular game and the overtime was incredible.
Kudos to the OU players and coaches, however for most of the game they were outplayed by the BSU team and out coached.
The game was one of the cleanest bowl games I have ever seen played. There was no thugs from the street doing street violence against their opponents.
BSU's quarterback should stay in Idaho and become a businessman and a conservative politician.
The people of Idaho have a great team and coaches to be proud of.
Somehow I missed seeing that part. :-(
Yes, Oklahoma played a great game too - they were doing what they were expected to do. Both teams deserve kudos for playing one of the best games I have ever seen. I had no reason to be pulling for either team, except that the Broncos were the underdogs. In fact, I almost didn't watch..... then, to see them win with such gutsy plays and shear determination was just pure entertainment.
Coach Peterson is the one who has the State Capitol by the horns right now from a personality and from a charm perspective. He virtually owns Boise after taking over from Coach Dan Hawkins and then doing so very well, and now winning the Fiesta Bowl in the fashion that he did, and making the comments on national TV about winning it for BSU, for the City of Boise, and for Idaho.
I expect he will be coaching for many years to come and that his contract just took a very postive hit.
Hawkins got a lot of money to go over to CSU...but in hindsite, IMHO, he left a year too early from a career and impact standpoint. But who knows what would have happened had he stayed? Peterson is owed the credit for this year, despite Hawkins recruiting. He led them here undefeated and showed his absolute worth as a masterful coach last night.
by far the greatest BCS game ever. no other game on the schedule will even match it
Really enjoyed that game, in spite of the effort of the Field judge and Umpire to give advantage to Oklahoma.
There was no doubt at any time in the game as to who the better team was. Go Boise!
Congratulations!
I certainly like Boise State's colors. Hopefully that other Orange and Blue team can have the same success.
I concur, but for a non-Boise State fan here, the idol worship of them gets on my nerves.
Woo hoo!!! We cheered for Boise Sate in our household. It's nice when a non-BCS team crashes the big BCS party and wins. The University of Utah did it 2 years ago. Too bad the powers-that-be couldn't put Boise State in the national championship game...
I was at the SMU-BYU game. I had a horrible head cold and kept begging my dad to leave early. He kept saying "Nope, we drove down and we're going to stay until the end." We were one of the very few fans that stayed. I will never forget the SMU band that was standing on the edge of the field, all ready to rush and celebrate.
We also sat in front of some very optimistic BYU fans, who kept saying "BYU can win. BYU can win." However, they left midway through the 3rd quarter.
You gotta be pumped about a game like that, especially if you come up on the winning side. That was the best game in the history of the school, and probably the history of 99% of all schools. I'll join you in your rejoice from about 1000 miles south.....Its a great way to start off 2007 huh?
I'm very happy for all the fans.
It was a great game indeed.
Thanks for the thread Jeff.
I could see the fireworks and hear firecrackers going off all over town for and hour after the game. My home is in the Boise foothills.
A lot of after game celebrations in Boise. A lot of noise, drinking, and otherwise good nature fun. The police stood by and were told by the chief to just let them enjoy the moment unless violence or vandalism occurred. Celebrations went on until late in the night and no arrests occurred.
Make that three gadget plays to win the game. On every on of them failure to work meant a loss for BSU.
I know this is an old thread, but I just ran into Ian Johnson and Chrissy at the Meridian Walmart. Very gracious as I gushed!
