"yeah or they could have played defense on the 4th and 18 play"

I think they defended the play ok; when the receiver caught the ball, he was short of the first down by about four yards and didn't look like he was going to make it. The lateral caught everyone in the stadium by surprise. Give Boise State credit for a brilliant play.

I think the best way to do a playoff in a manner that can accomodate teams like BSU is to have a play-in, during the month of December between the conference champions of the 2-nd tier Division I-A conferences (Mountain West, MAC, WAC, Sun Belt and C-USA), the winner out of that tournament gets a shot at the big boys in January. That guarantees that every Division I-A team has an opportunity to win the championship if they run the table.

Shades of Duriel Harris to Tony Nathan against the Chargers in 1982.

Lets not get carried away. Ohio State, Florida, USC, LSU or Michigan would take them to the woodshed.

Yahoo sports has a poll: "Should 13-0 BSU get a shot at Ohio St.?" With over 40000 votes this morning it's 74% yes.

USC with two losses will be higher ranked than they will be. They blew out a highly regarded opponent on the national stage. They may get a number 5 ranking at best.

As a Gator, after last night, I'm not convinced Florida would take them to the woodshed, I think it would actually be a pretty close game. I don't see UF winning by more than a TD.

The same was said of Oklahoma by many. Don't forget, take away the terrible call at the end of the Oregon game and Oklahoma is ranked in the top three.

Michigan? Laughable.

"Ohio State, Florida, USC, LSU or Michigan would take them to the woodshed."

And I believe Boise State clobbered Oregan State, who clobbered USC. The Pac-10 was weird this year. Oregon State started out horribly and finished strong, Oregon started out strong and finished horribly. Washington almost beat USC and Cal, then lost to 0-9 Stanford (at home). UCLA was all over the map, too, losing to Washington and beating USC, and looking good against Florida State before collapsing in the 4th quarter.

First, your tagline is a real hoot!!

I concur with your remark about Koetter not winning "enough" games. Sometimes, I forget that college football is a "business", a big one and that money talks.

Koetter's fate sounds similar to that of Mike Shula, 'Bama's most recent coach. He did win 10 games last year, but what did him in was his unimaginative, uninspired play calling. He was the one who called all of the offensive plays even though they had a coordinator. His teams were undisciplined, so much so, that players backtalked coaches on the sidelines. Part of that was Shula's fault. But the final nail in the coffin was the loss to lowly Mississippi State and then the 5th straight loss to rival Auburn.

Shula, like Koettter, was shy and not very outgoing. He was a good recruiter but not so effective with alumni.

What is going to be interesting is to see what 'Bama will do if Saban turns down their offer.

Some Bama folks were clamoring for Dennis Erickson but many thought he had too many NCAA liabilities, something Bama is only too familiar with.

Yes, Michigan could in spite of the thrashing they took from the Trojans. They are a great team and were completely dominated last night and it could have been far worse than 32-18. The Rose Bowl result convinced me so far that Ohio State may have dodged a bullet. If USC played that great in a game for which they were supposedly unispired. How do you think they would have played in a game that means something?

The Trojans are very young and are going to be awesome next year.

What a see-saw that game turned out to be! I was screaming at my TV for the last half hour.

Way to go, Boise!

They clobbered the Beavers early in the year in Idaho. I think the result may have been different later in the year when OSU was playing great.

"Dennis Erickson"

He epitomazes the nomadic lifestyle of modern football coaches - Idaho, Washington State, Miami, San francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Arizona State, Oregon State, etc. I remember glancing through the coaches biographies in the Seahawks program a few years ago, and they are all nomads, rarely stayed in the same place for more than three or four years. It must be terribly hard on family life.

"Great game!! Boise's winning play surely faked me out. Brilliant call."

The most brilliant call was the pass-and-lateral play. UO played the right defense - they kept the receivers in front of them, well short of the first down marker. BSU knew they'd play that defense and that UO would probably give them the short pass (it was 4th and 18). So BSU took what they gave them, 4-5 yards short of the first down, and the subsequent lateral was the element that no one expected.

Yes, but what is the SEC's record against Big Ten teams so far?

The most brilliant call was the pass-and-lateral play.

Read an article this morning about a discussion of that play after the game that went something like this:

Player...."We practice that play every week for a few minutes, it's a fun play".
Another player..."Yeah but it usually doesn't work at practice".
Offensive coordinator...."It never works at practice".

He wears out his welcome wherever he goes.

But if Daddy is making over a million a year then the family goes wherever he does.
