For whatever it's worth, I'm 43, but I'm not sure what difference being that age would have over my choice of the ideal date for New Year's Eve.

Of the names on the list, I'm not sure that I would recognize any of them if they passed me on the street. I know who Jessica Alba is. I see why guys find her attractive, but she's just never appealed to me. The same is true of Scarlett Johannsen. Halle Berry has a pretty face and shapely figure. I like her overall look when her hair isn't too short. I don't know anything about her on a personal level, so I don't know whether I could stand trying to talk to her for even ten minutes.

Among prominent conservatives, I agree that Peggy Noonan is an attractive and intelligent lady, but she's enough older that she wouldn't be an ideal date for me. Like most guys on FR, I've panted over Ann Coulter, but she really wouldn't be right for me. She's clearly someone who likes big cities and the whole city scene. I'd rather die than live in that environment. Her latest book, Godless, was either a blatant pander to religious conservatives or shows that she's become a religious conservative. The book was disappointing on several levels, and I'm much less interested in her than I was in the past. Most other prominent conservative women are married.

I think Jessica Simpson is very pretty, and I think the whole tuna/chicken thing was staged. She may not be as stupid as her public image seems to be. She seems to be a nice person in many ways, and I'd value "nice" over "brilliant" anyway. However, I have a hard time wishing that Jessica Simpson would be my New Year's Eve date.

One celebrity who always seemed perfect was Sara Evans, but I really can't tell who's lying in her whole divorce mess. Even if she's completely innocent and completely truthful, her having kids makes her not ideal for me. However, if she didn't have kids, had never been married, and weren't under this whole cloud, she would seem perfect.

I shouldn't have started this post. I'm coming to the depressing realization that not only will I not have a New Year's Eve date, there's no one who I really wish were my New Year's Eve date.

Be of good cheer. And rest assured that "she" is out there, somewhere..it's liek mining diamonds, you have to dig through a lot of dirt to find a gem..And it's a dirty, messy job, but the reward is worthwhile..

Bill, you gave that a lot of serious thought...only to come to a rather less than satifying conclusion...

I just know that such a thoughtful guy, with conservative views and the ability to be a discerning judge of people (women that draw your attention, anyway) could find a lady to spend the evening with...keep looking :)

I'm 40 and much in the same boat, a lot of glamour from Hollywood never appealed to me either. To me, age doesn't really matter as long as she like being with me and if thing develop, she loves me for who I am and of course it goes both ways from ym side of the equation too.

Yeah, Peggy is a little ahead of my in the ideal age too but again my age rules apply, if she wanted to go on a dinner date or something, I could never refuse. Anne Coulter, I never found her to be that attractive, I guess she needs to do something with her hair, I think that is why I don't find her that good looking, she needs a hair style. She does have a good mind and I do agree with her on the War on Terror and value most of her opinions.

I think Laura Ingraham is cool, I like to clobber the guy who dumped her after her breast cancer surgery. As painful as it is, it is better to find out at that point in time than later on when marriage and kids come along that the guy is a total jagoff.

Don't know enough about her, I'm afraid when it comes to pop culture I'm a heathen. Still I value "nice" and character the most. I think we feature too much "bling" in our society.
