When I turn on my comp I get a big display that says "Spy Marshal"
I try to uninstall it and I get a window that tells me I must exit the program before I can uninstall it. There's the problem, there's no way to exit it. The only option is to purchase it.
It covers most of the icons on my screen including the fire fox one I usually use. I went into "my documents" where Netscape is stored and got here with it.
Yes, I'm logged on.

If you get any errors on start-up you probably have registry entries left over that can be seen and removed with HijackThis. They will usually reference a random folder named like "zxtgfyhdtgye" or a modified folder named after a folder you have on the machine with one or two characters changed.
Be aware that the SpySherrif I removed installed several hundred files and folders with names that are variations on Windows folders and common technical and computer terms.
Once I got rid of the exe and the registry entries the junk was castrated but I still hunted everything down.

When I uninstalled Spy Marshal I did it from the "add or remove programs" The icon is gone from the desk top and I can't find anything related to it in my program files.I don't know if anyone has said this...make sure you check with MSconfig (you can run it from the Start:Run pull up list,) and see if you can find something connected to SpyMarshal on your Startup list...

No, there's no real-time shield like AVG, Norton, etc. However, AVG, Norton, etc. don't prevent spyware/viruses either.
The latest updates for SpywareBlaster should be manually installed every 10-15 days. Once you install SpywareBlaster and download the latest updates, and then run the program, it will blacklist thousands of known sites/URLs, in case when someone else is using the PC, they try to go to one of those sites.
After you run it, you can close it, and then leave it closed for another 10-15 days, until you check for new updates next. No need to have it minimized and running in the background.

I also suggest you upgrade to IE 7 to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. I've used fire fox only for a long time but I do believe that my daughter used an older version of IE while she was here.

Why?
Windows is just fine.
WINDOWS: Easy, Secure w/updates
LINUX: Secure, NOT easy
APPLE: Best of both worlds. Not much good for gaming/apps.

I second what JRios1968 says above.
1) Click START button
2) Click RUN
3) Type MSCONFIG
4) Click OK
5) In the System Config Utility which pops up, click the Startup Tab
6) Look at the entries with green check mark's in them, and see if you notice anything suspicious checked.
7) Checked entries are what's running every time you boot up.

You asked me if I used fire fox, I answered yes. Fire Fox is my browser, I still have Windows.

Was a bit of a joke.
It's Firefox, not Fire Fox.
See?

dmrlr and WKdetect and lxczbmgr are the only ones I see that I don't understand.

FireFox is a good browser, excellent even, but I got sick of having to constantly re-install it whenever a new version came out. All my last XP machine and all my Vista machines run IE7 now, and I'm quite happy with it. It may be a good idea to go ahead and upgrade to it so you'll have fewer worries when family comes to visit? Totally up to you, of course.

lxczbmgr is okay. wkdetect.exe is OK if you have MS Works on your PC. Startup Tab can be ruled out then.
