James Brown's Body To Lie At Apollo Theater In NYC

AP) NEW YORK James Brown's music career will come full circle when his body is brought to rest on the stage of the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he made his explosive debut, and the world changed to his beat.

The public will be permitted on Thursday to visit the Apollo to have one more look at a man who helped steer modern musical tastes toward rhythm-and-blues, funk, hip-hop, disco and rap, the Rev. Al Sharpton said Tuesday. The reverend has been a close friend of Brown for decades.

"It would almost be unthinkable for a man who lived such a sensational life to go away quietly," Sharpton said in an interview from Georgia, where he was making funeral arrangements with Brown's children.

Sharpton said the public Apollo viewing will be followed by a private ceremony Friday in Brown's hometown, Augusta, Ga., and another public ceremony, officiated by Sharpton, a day later at the James Brown Arena there.

I don't really care if he was or wasn't. I said anyone can feel the way they do, thats their business, but I don't like the man, he was a creep, always was and always will be in my book....I don't like people like him, you can find them on every street corner a dime a dozen....

He did the time, paid his price.
So? I was posting a Google search link for those who may not have been aware. Unlike you, I don't think he should be absolved of his crimes just because he was an entertainer.

You don't know what I think. What a ridiculous assertion.

And... when was he absolved of any crimes...????

"Talk about creeps...Brown's lawyer had his wife and child locked out of the house. The lawyer claims that their marriage of 5 years was not valid.

They are reporting on Foxnews.com that the woman in question was not divorced from her first husband when she married James Brown. That would qualify as an invalid marriage. They are also reporting that she has her own home right down the street from his and had only stayed in his home on a part time basis. If this is the case she's not exactly locked out with no place to go.

Besides, this other marriage of hers -- allegedly her first -- was to a Pakistani who wanted to become a citizen quickly. Things that make you go, Hmmmmmm.......

Yes, it's amazing to me that more people have not heard how abusive Gandhi was to his wife. But he was also abusive to himself, went through all kinds of ascetic, self-deprivation rituals. I guess he felt inherently "unclean" or something... I'm not sure what that disorder is called, it could fall under OCD.

But, all told, in my opinion Gandhi is nowhere near the reverence and awe accorded to him.

The video had already been removed by the time I went to view it, weegee.

Here's the report: Huge crowds are waiting out in the cold in New York for their chance to enter the Apollo and view Brown's body. The viewing is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. EST; however, the horse-drawn carriage bearing his casket has not yet reached the Apollo Theatre.

This is for everyone. James Brown lived his life. He may have had his run ins with the law and women but he was inspirational to many, on both sides of the tracks. There are things he did that went untold some of you would never get down off your high horses and do. So let the man rest in peace.

Thanks, Wolverine. It looks like the folks in Harlem were glad today to have the opportunity to pay their respects to the Godfather.

Youre exactly right.

I'm not judging his contribution to music history or his "talent", Im remembering him, as a person...and it wasnt pretty. As long as people KNOW what he was, which was a low life woman beater, than Im good with that.
He is spit in the universe as far as Im concerned.

Brown was the star of the T.A.M.I. show in '64, which was later produced into one of the greatest concert films ever. Even though the Stones were the closing act, it was James Brown who captivated the crowd with his raw screams and dancing. Imagine how Mick must have felt having to follow the Godfather of Soul!

Thanks for bringing that into the room. 1964, the year I graduated from high school, was a stellar year for R&B and soul. The years leading up to it and afterwards weren't bad either. Those were some great party times, when partying was ALL ABOUT DANCING.

Look at the way those dudes are wearing suits, not like the grungy droopy drawers of today. They did smooth dance steps instead of crotch-grabbing, too. It was a FUN time.

The Stones got their licks from Little Richard, Chuck Berry and James Brown. I was never a Stones fan, always preferred the REAL DEAL. And now James Brown is getting a fitting tribute.

Let me just say one last thing to you. When you made your remarks about James Brown, he had recently died. No, you do not have to have liked him at all. You're free to have your opinion.

I was not a fan of Steve Irwin. But, when he died, I did not go on the threads and trash him. I held my peace.

The test is to match the picture with the entertainer's name. Which one is the Stones?
