Need FReeper advice: KitchenAid Mixmaster What attachments do you NEED?

Posted on 12/11/2006 7:03:31 PM PST by Pukin Dog

Okay, here it is:

Girlfriend is a budding pastry chef, who made a subtle hint yesterday about wanting a Mixmaster. I'm thinking "thats no big deal, what the hell?" So, I go up to Amazon, and theres all these colors, and all these freakin attachments, and DAMN that thing is expensive!! I thought I was going to get away cheap on this deal, ya know?

So, you owners of these things, what is so great about them anyway, and what attachments should I buy with the thing, and what freaking COLOR and, and, and, by the time I'm ready to buy, should I just give her the cash?

Why is this thing so much more expensive then the other brands? Does food taste better with this thing? Is this some female status symbol or something? I could buy a lot of man stuff with that money, so ladies, tell me what's so great about this sucker, before I get her a gift certificate instead!

You could duct tape a wire whisk to an electric drill...Tell her it's the 'budget' version.

I've noticed Alton Brown's mixers--and he's had several paintjobs on his show. It'd be so cool to have a custom paint job on a kitchenaid.

Do you have an extra bowl?

"Thanks, Mrs Ranger."

Your welcome. :) And if you think that's expensive, be glad she isn't into woodworking and cabinetry like my husband. ;)

The Oxygen Channel is one of the reasons we have a second TV in the house.

I have the slicer/shredder and the ice cream maker attachments for mine.

Oh, and if you want to think like Tim Allen when you buy one, I read that the KitchenAid's motors are strong enough to mix concrete (but of course, the warranty doesn't cover that...)!

Oh, and get her a baking stone, too. They're like $20, and really improve the taste of everything, from pizza crusts to cookies.

Alton Brown says to go to Home Depot and get a 12" unglazed ceramic floor tile for ~$1.00 instead. Just as good.

Thanks, but buying from Amazon. Its $100 off. I picked the attachment pack for another hundred, and the pasta stuff too. Amazon will wrap the stuff for me, and I joined Amazon prime to get free 2-day shipping. I buy all my tools from Amazon as well. I picked up a cool little Jig Saw the other day for $40.

A mixer with flames

Perhaps a liquid oxygen grill? "Started with 60 lbs of charcoal, and burnt up 40 lbs of it in 3 seconds. Result is a grill ready to cook in about 3 seconds"

I guess I will have to check out this Alton Brown character. If he paints his mixers, there must be something to him. Doing a Tivo search.....

Mrs. L does indeed have an extra bowl. She's getting the meat grinding attachment for Christmas. That's one of the things she wants.

My wife is going to make sausage for me....God I love that woman.

The show is called "Good Eats". He also hosts the American version of Iron Chef.

Good Eats is the one you want. In my market it's on at 6:00 PM Central.

He's pretty funny, very informative, and you can eat the stuff he teaches you to make.

Every ones a winner!
