Need FReeper advice: KitchenAid Mixmaster What attachments do you NEED?

Posted on 12/11/2006 7:03:31 PM PST by Pukin Dog

Okay, here it is:

Girlfriend is a budding pastry chef, who made a subtle hint yesterday about wanting a Mixmaster. I'm thinking "thats no big deal, what the hell?" So, I go up to Amazon, and theres all these colors, and all these freakin attachments, and DAMN that thing is expensive!! I thought I was going to get away cheap on this deal, ya know?

So, you owners of these things, what is so great about them anyway, and what attachments should I buy with the thing, and what freaking COLOR and, and, and, by the time I'm ready to buy, should I just give her the cash?

Why is this thing so much more expensive then the other brands? Does food taste better with this thing? Is this some female status symbol or something? I could buy a lot of man stuff with that money, so ladies, tell me what's so great about this sucker, before I get her a gift certificate instead!

Be back later. The Bears are beating St. Louis. If I blink I might miss it.

Now, that's a novel idea!
12 inches seems little small, though.
I think mine is 24 inches, and I can bake 12 cookies or one loaf of bread at a time.

Yeah, but that professional model is $400! Then you get $50 back? I can get the Artisan at Amazon and all those attachments for just a bit more. I may be a man, but I can do math!

It is truly a wonderful world we live in, when you can buy flame decals for a mixer. OMG. This is insane! Flame decals for a MIXER!

Before you sign on the line, be sure to compare horsepower.

Now, THAT'S usin' the ol' noggin!

Hey now, cooking is a manly activity... knives, motors, cast iron, fire -- a pastry chef might even use a blowtorch.

I agree with you Mrs. Ranger. And the mixer comes with the three basic attachments.

My daughter gave me one of these a couple years ago and I do not know how I managed all those years without my Kitchenaid. I also got an attachment from Ebay that rolls oats which I like very much and it works very well.

The other thing I bought for myself was a very good kitchen scale (actually I bought a cheap one first and found out why a good one was necessary). Now I weigh my ingredients right in the bowl and instead of having a sink-ful of dishes to wash after I've done my mixing, there's just one dish, the actual mixing bowl.
