You saved yourself a lot of bother by not going to the ER. You can't cast toes. You can buddy tape them to the next toe to help keep them straight. You can take analgesics for the pain. You can wear shoes to help protect them. But actually very little can really be done for broken toes. It takes six weeks to heal.

How do I know this? My big toe, left foot, is currently broken. Again.

Ah, yes, I have become an expert myself. The following day, when I did have occasion to have it x-rayed, the ER doc said that not only had I correctly set it I had "reduced it" and they were thinking of putting me on te orthopedic staff.

Needless to say, we moved the toy box back to the position 24" away, as it had been.

I have a toe that grew kind of crooked. People have told me they bet I broke it as a kid...
