Your soup sounds yummy. I'm having 35 people over on the 23rd and have already promised chicken soup. I make a pretty good one but wonder if anyone has secrets to share.
You are a braver soul than I...that's a lot of soup....
Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' book, Simple Socks (Plain and Fancy) has a recipe for one easy sock, and lots of variations. I am on my second sock, after a year hiatus due to tendonitis.
What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, reading news, recipe and craft sites, making a luceted cord and listening to musicals. Ahhhhhh! :-)

A couple chicken breasts, cooked
A ring of hillshire tpye sausage, I fry this, give's is a nice look
1/2 pound or so of cooked shrimp
Frozen corn
Frozen okra
(any other veggies you might have in the freezer that sounds good, or too little an amount to use for a meal)
I add a dash of red pepper flakes
Salt and pepper
Follow the direction on the gumbo box.
My husband LOVES it. Hey, it's gumbo, be creative.
I make gumbo sort of this way (my cookbook's still packed away, and I can't tell you exactly)+-

I make a roux of oil and flour, cooking it slowly so it browns and doesn't scortch. Then I add onion, chopped celery, bell pepper, broth, frozen okra, chopped tomatos, smoked sausage. Let it cook until the okra's about done, add crawfish tail meat, shrimp, crab meat, check the seasoning, add garlic, red pepper, and when it's just about done, some gumbo file.
Zatarain's is good though. I grew up with it.

Now that is a labor of love. I've done that twice and know how much work and heavy lifting goes into that project. Congratulations. It looks great.
I don't knit or sew anymore but about 30 years ago I made muppet-like puppets. I even gave a few puppet shows at my kid's schools. (I think I still have the patterns I made up somewhere.)
Currently my passion is making concrete garden "art". Last year I started out making and painting concrete leaves, but this year I've graduated to more challenging items...a bench, small tables, planters and spheres. I've even got my grandkids involved in the craft.

I love okra but it is one of those controversial veggies but the base sounds yummy. I'll look for it. We are blessed with amazing grocery stores of all descriptions here.
I just put out the wonderful nativity set that my mother in law made about 20 years ago. I have lovingly restored it over the years and now the kings all have new coats and gifts and the beards have been sewn on since they were originally glued and we know how long that lasts. Last year my 2 year old great nephew had to be steered away from the antique china set so I put that in the glass front cabinet and put this kid's set on the antique marble topped wash stand where is where the china one has been since I can ever remember. The stuffed one looks great there. And I added a small funny stuffed santa, an extra stuffed angel I found at JoAnn's and a finger puppet nativity I found at Ten Thousand Villages. It's right at kid height and just as you come in the door. Oh, and the candle sticks are a snow man and a rocking horse. I love it!!!!
A side note, why not include cooking as part of this thread, it's a craft as well as knitting or sewing. I think we might learn more stuff!
What's controversial about okra, I haven't heard that? Please do let us know! (I hope this doesn't spoil it for me.....) Seriously, I know about frogs legs, and oysters, but haven't heard about okra.
I started a Noah's Ark crossstich project for my sister-in-law's new son's room. That was her theme. He's 9 now.

Sorry to keep pinging you, but you keep jogging my memory. We had a really great, authentic New Orleans restaurant in our little town of 30k people. There was a fight between the owners and it went out of business. But, they had all the great NO style menu items, and, it was fresh. The chef prided himself in authentic stuff. Everyday, he created a new dish. I loved that place. "Muddy's on Main"... They had a cool crawfish as their mascot. It's a shame they went out of business over stupid business fights.
Where can I find a SIMPLE pattern for crocheted socks and mittens? Any ideas?
I don't crochet, except for afgans. I can ask my mom, she's a crocheting (left handed) fanatic, if you want.
It would be appreciated. I used to knit and mean to pick it up again some day, but I get a lot done with crochet. I just can't find a simple mitten and sock pattern for some reason.
