ATLANTA -- Michigan had its chance against Ohio State and lost. Southern California couldn't even beat its struggling rival on Saturday, so the Trojans won't get an opportunity to play the No. 1 Buckeyes more than a month from now.
Florida is next in line, and after beating Arkansas 38-28 in Saturday night's SEC championship game at the Georgia Dome, the Gators deserve the opportunity to play Ohio State in the Jan. 8 BCS title game in Glendale, Ariz.
Florida finished 12-1 against one of the country's toughest schedules, won its first SEC title since 2000 and lost one game in a conference that is still regarded the sport's toughest from top to bottom.
"We certainly do," Florida coach Urban Meyer said when asked Saturday night whether he believes the Gators should get a chance to play Ohio State. "Florida belongs. The other team had a shot. We went 12-1, and I think the country wants to see the Southeastern Conference champion against the Big 10 champion. I think that's what this is all about."
But because of college football's inept system of determining which two teams will play for the national championship, voters around the country will decide Sunday whether the Gators or Wolverines will play the Buckeyes in the Arizona desert.

I wouldnt take any computers word. Especially when they have teams like Oregon and Arizona with a weak record with rankings in the 20's while 9-4 Nebraska(before they were 9-3) was in the 30's. Nah the computers are totally schizoid this year, in fact at one time they had Rutgers humber 2 while OSU was number 3. I will go by the official NCAA SOS anyday over a computer.
Why do you even reply to sports threads. You are just a big-10 cheerleader and have been in every thread you've ever taken part in.
In the past you've claimed that all other conferences cheat except the Big-10. That the Big-10 is the classiest conference and the SEC and ACC are just thugs.
While I believe the SEC is the superior conference (the conference dominates recruiting, send the most players to the NFL, and the coaches are the highest paid), I still respect the other conferences.
It's guys like you that make everyone despise an otherwise respectable conference.
I agree that many of the computers are screwed up this year. I wonder if there was some upset or abnormality game that propagated itself through the rankings.
I never said the SEC and ACC are thugs, nor did I say the Big 10 is clean while all the other conferences cheat. What I said was that my direct experience has convinced me that there is a higher incidence of rule breaking in the ACC and SEC than exists in the Big 10.
If you don't like those sorts of statements of fact, perhaps these threads aren't the place for you.
Florida is the only reason why the GOP won the last 2 presidential elections while Michigan has consistently been a Democratic lock. I don't think I'd be bringing up voting.
Florida is a state that is booming while Michigan is a state in serious decline. It's likely in the next reapportionment that Georgia will catch up or exceed Michigan in population - Florida left Michigan in the dust long ago.
Michigan already got thrashed by Ohio State.
Next.
I don't like comments that are based solely on a person being a homer and wearing rose colored glasses. Fortunately, you are one of the very few in these threads that produce those sort of comments.
FWIW, all college programs break the rules. You claim that you have 'direct experience', but if you think that Big-10 programs don't routinely break the rules then either you are in denial or you were trusted enough to be exposed to it.
The trick is to break the rules just enough that you don't get caught. Fortunately, for Big-10 schools the recruiting battles aren't very intense and the school rivalries stay on the field. Big-10 schools don't turn in other schools.
In the SEC, the recruiting battles are very intense and the backers of the schools actually hate the other schools and see no problem with turning in rival schools in order to gain an advantage.
Also, the Big-10 only has 3 true big time programs (OSU, Michigan and PSU) - the incentive to really push the envelope is really on present in those 3. The SEC has 6 big time programs (UF, LSU, Auburn, UT, Alabama, UGA) so chances of getting caught are at least twice as high.
I'm signing off for a while. Have a good day, and feel free to have the last word...
If you aren't aware that all programs break the rules, especially big time ones, then I really have to doubt if you really had any first hand involvement like you claim.
Look at USC, they looked extremely clean right up until the Reggie Bush story broke. USC wasn't directly involved but every big time school has boosters or agents that provide benefits to athletes. OSU, Michigan and PSU do it too.
I've actually seen some of the ways it works. One example is a an booster that owns an electonics store. He allows the athletes to come by, get a nice stereo systems, ipods, whatever and not pay. The school is aware of it but not "officially". The same goes for clothing stores, auto dealerships, etc.
If you don't think that PSU athletes get some perks then I either you didn't know what to look for or you weren't trusted enough to be let in on it.
Wow! Three points is a helluva thrahsing. The people in Phoenix are praying for Michigan. Florida doesn't travel well.
If Florida gets the nod, then the terrorists have won.
According to UF message board, Coaches poll is out and UF is #2.
Found the link to the coach's poll - UF has a pretty big lead over UF...

I just saw that, Florida jumps Michigan, looks like the coaches want Florida to play for the title.
I wonder if the Harris poll is already in but just not released. The reporters could see the results from this poll and change their votes to make up the difference.
AP poll is out, Florida is #2, Michigan #3....
"Yea , we do, eat your heart out! Class is class and we got it!"
The only class Michigan ever had passed away a day before THE game. Speaking of Bo, in one of his last interviews, if not his very last, he was asked if there should be a rematch between OSU and Michigan, he said no, it would not be fair to the winning team. Go argue with him, please.
The Coach's Sports Information Director's Poll is just one piece of the puzzle. The AP poll is not included in the BCS.
Good may still triumph over evil.
Sadness, I want the SEC to get their shot and Florida to play for the NC. But I want LSU to go to the Rose Bowl. Ahhhh Conflicted conflicted. Florida has got it though. So we shall have to beat the Irish I guess which is always fun
ESPN is saying the computers are almost dead even, so it looks to come down to the Harris poll.
Being a firm supporter of another SEC team and the Gators being one of the two arch rivals we lost to this year - I still vote for them. They *do* deserve it. However, I won't be surprised if they don't make it. SEC sometimes seem to be the red headed step child nationally.
