Pete Gets It! Go Gators!
It should be Michigan/Ohio State.(And I don't like either team)
Welcome to Free Republic!
Yes, Ohio State playing Florida will be very entertaining (I root for the Buckeyes as well!)
ping.
But this year I hope we see Mich. vs. Ohio St. so the BCS's biggest defender - the SEC - may decide it's time to stop defending the indefensible.
I want USC - Michigan in the Rose Bowl. That is New Years day the way I like it!
Every time I see this argument, I have to chuckle to myself. No matter how hard one tries to make it neutral, Glendale won't be. It's Buckeye Nation Southwest.
If they hadn't watered down strength of scheduling, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Another thing I think should be taken into consideration is if a school has to play a championship game. I think that should give more points to the conference champion for an extra game. Call me biased but the SEC, ACC, Big 12 all play conference championships so why should the Big 10 and PAC 10 be given any advantage when they don't have a conference championship game and play one less game?
My vote is for Florida who won the SEC Championship game!
OSU-UF for the championship. Absolutely. And I am in no way a UF fan, although it would be nice to see the SEC finally get a chance to play a game they've deserved to play for a while.
Anyone who is in favor of an OSU-Michigan championship game needs to answer the following question: why should OSU have to beat Michigan twice to win a national championship, yet Michigan would only have to win one of two OSU games to win the championship?
If anyone can provide a logical response to that absurd conclusion, then and only then will I listen to any arguments about Michigan getting a rematch against OSU.
Florida deserves to be in the NC game. Michigan is not even a conferenne champion and already lost to Ohio State.
Let us see how the BCS screws the SEC over this time around.
This is what I thought you meant by raw numbers.
Florida barely got past Georgia, Vandy, South Carolina and a pathetic FSU team, all in a 5 week period... and they still play games against teams that struggle in Div I-AA.
What is the objective criteria here to determine strength of schedule???? Isn't strength of schedule based on polls, which if every sportswriter could do, would have Notre Dame ranked #1 every year.
If not Michigan, then Florida would be my second choice. Somebody has to play OSU.

The only way we get rid of all the controversy is to go to a 16 team playoff. The format would include all 11 Conference Champs, and 5 at-large teams. The at large teams would be the 5 hghest ranking teams other than the conference champs. That would be the only fair way to do a playoff. The BCS conferences have had a lock on this for too long. The only way to get a "true National Champ" is to include the so-called Mid-Major conferences.
Don't get me wrong, I love College Football, it's the only game in town where every game, every week matters. But is very unfair that 6 conferences get to play for the prize, while the other 5 can only watch from the sidelines. A true playoff would go a long way in helping the Mid -Majors with recruiting, they still won't get the 5 star blue chipper, but they would be able to land a few more 4 and 3 star guys who would otherwise go to Texas or Ohio St. Those kids might just stay home because they know their conference now has a legitimate shot in tournament format.
Why should a second place team in their own conference get a shot at the national title?
However, I hope this situation really puts some spurs in the NCAA to give us a playoff.
