She could have said only "dinner conversation is better here" and have been done with it. Instead, she goes further and says, "The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans," which is inflammatory and flat out not true. What, people in Silicon Valley aren't smart? The men and women who work for NASA aren't intelligent? The US has the greatest collection of univeristies on the planet. There are 300,000,000 people here. Has Gwyneth dined with all of us? As far as "civilized" goes, one is 5 times more likely to be mugged in London than in New York City and Britain has spreading tension between it yobs and unassimilated "Asian" population, so you can make the case that civilization in breaking down in England, but in reality every country has its problems.
She marries a goddamned rock star -- a mediocre one at that -- and hangs out with Madonna and presumes to hold forth about how cultured she is? Yeah, I'm sure her husband's rock star friends give better dinner conversation and then they roll a spliff right at the dinner table and don't talk about how much they paid for the weed because that would be crude and all to talk about money that way at the dinner table.
She hung out in Hollywood and Manhattan which are money centric and didn't realize that it was her friends who were talking about money. She simply has a different set of friends in England. She's not bright enough to see that. If a British girl came to the US and dated a basketball player and hung out with only him and his friends, she might start to think that all Amercians are tall. But only if she's as dumb as Gwyneth Paltrow.
Now I wish the DVD for A Perfect Murder had an alternate ending. You know, one where Michael Douglas gets away with it.

Her mother, Blythe Danner is an wonderful American actress.
.

What gets my goat even more so about "GWENNY" here is that she has had EVERYTHING handed to her since she was born. It's real easy for silver spoon sucking idiots like her to say thinggs like this, given the company she's only surrounded herself in her whole life.

You are preaching to the choir, dear.
My only favorable comment about Ms Paltrow's remarks was that she was correct to say that talking about money is not the done thing in Britain - considered very crass.

Blythe Danner is wonderful. No doubt about that. She's is in one of my favorite "little movies" - The Great Santini.
Drudge is linking to this article now. Rather bad publicity for Gwyneth. I expect a retraction or at least a modification from her publicist anytime now.

Boy, one of the most dangerous (and time consuming) jobs these days is being a Hollywood publicist in damage control mode!
And I agree about the Great Santini. I always thought it was one of those movies that the name had a big effect on its success. Terrible and misleading title.

Her daddy was a big Hollywood producer; her mother (who IS attractive) was a Hollywood starlet. Hollywood loves dynasties.
