The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I'm rather startled by how much my old vacuum cleaner apparently was missing. Haven't gotten very far with the cleaning because this thing is sucking up big ol' cups of dust.

Since it's wet outside, I emptied some right into the trash can. Now there's a little light-colored dust on my garbage can lid. Think I should call the news channel?

Think I should call the news channel?

Sure... they're run a story without even bothering to find out what it is!

Joes.... joes are big fat wedge french fries.

I had no idea 'Boobs and Joes' was such an unusual menu item! :~)

It was over a century ago, forensics weren't good enough to do anything and I guess it pretty much burned completely.

We ordered a couch... it should be in by the time the basement is finished. I hate spending money on stuff but we're gonna need it to finish things down there, so... ah well. It's a nice couch.

Of DOOOOOM, of course.

What color is it? Recliner or anything fancy like that?

I think I'm only going to get as far as the livingroom tonight as vacuuming goes. Apparently I had about twenty pounds of dust embedded in the carpet and didn't know it. It's in the trash now, but it makes me a little afraid to tackle the hall, which is a much higher traffic area where pets are concerned.

Does look better in here, though. Amazing how much a clean carpet brightens up a room.

At least with hardwood, you can see the dust bunnies.

Yeah...I had a love/hate relationship with the hardwood floors at my house. Made it easy to see dirt...which is both good and bad.

I also worried a lot about scratches, though. But I'm positive they're far more sanitary. If you really start to think about carpeting...well, I wouldn't want to really look at one under a microscope, I'm sure.

heh. Well, I decided to work some more on my '06 salary and bonus worksheet for the meeting tomorrow, which, of course, means bourbon.

Oh, how I suffer for my people.

Light brown, it's a sectional so it's basically a couch plus loveseat. Doesn't recline but it's vey comfy. Also found a coffeetable to go with it. At some point we'll add the rug.

No kidding avout the vaccuuming. If'n I weren't so tired I'd do the rug in the office, the dogs chew stuff up in here and it looks sad but a good run with the vacuum fixes that.

Plus... it's just fun to say. :-)

another thing. I recently got myself a heart-monitor watch, that links wireless to this little stretchy gizmo that you strap around your chest, and a blood pressure wrist device. As part of my exercising on the bicycle trainer, so I can keep track of some metrics.

I'm trying to figure out how to get it out of "GET TO THE HOSPITAL NOW" alarm mode. Yeesh. [just kidding]

But the metrics are alarming. It's one thing to know you're out of shape, but it's quite another be able to measure precise how big a problem that is. [sigh]

Mmmm...gadgets...

Some of the machines at the gym used to measure heart rate using a grip...but I don't think those are nearly as accurate as the kind you've got.

The first thing I'm doing in any house we buy is ripping out the carpet and putting down stone, tile, and hardwood.

They just refinished all the hardwood before they put this house on sale. There's tile in the bathroom and kitchen...no carpet at all until I put in thesunroom (the carpet came free.) I guess I could always take out the carpet and put in tile, but that tile gets awfully cold in the winter.

You know, I gotta say, I'm with you on that. This house in Bellevue is actually the first house I've had that was pretty much all hard floors, wood or tile. The TV room is carpeted but that's all.

I've noticed that they're astonishingly easy to clean. The dust and dirt seems to collect around the edges, and I can walk around the border with the handheld shopvac and a long tube and get pretty much all the dirt.

Then vacuum the rugs or take 'em out and shake 'em and presto. If the rug gets nasty you just get a new rug. Presto.

I'm liking wood over tile, only because in this climate they don't get ice-cold in the morning like tile does. In southern latitudes I can see doing the reverse.
