Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
Might not be Cisco's fault. I've found that birds can be leery of new things. If I change even the brand of sunflower seeds, the birds will stay away from the feeder for a couple of days. I finally had to end up moving a feeder before the birds would use it. I had another feeder up in the exact same place, but the birds refused to use the new one. Who knows what goes on in a bird's brain?

Same here. I've always worked for style over substance. We'll, cause I could.
The the guys in our program at church are even more obsessive than the Cub Scout dads were.
We got "Grapes of Wrath" from Blockbuster and watched it last night.
I tell you, when Tommy Joad is talking about his ma attacking that peddler, I just roared and knew right then I was truly an Oklahoman! You remember? She had an axe in one hand and live chicken in the other. She meant to attack him with the axe, but got confused and beat him up with the live chicken! Tom said "When she got done, all she had was a couple of chicken legs."
I laughed so hard.
Just seems like I pull that stuff too often. :-\
It's been over a week...so we'll see. We've fed birds so long back home that the location of our feeder is probably part of the genetic material of the local bird population - they all just know instinctively that it's there.
So I don't remember at all how long it usually takes for the little guys to identify new locations.
It's not a problem! Folk need a ride sometimes! Honk when you're pulling out, and I'll come along behind you.
OK...just gonna clean *some* of the frap out of the van so it's not *quite* as embarrassing...and then I'm off.
OK - here's the plan... when you leave, I'll go to the feed store and get squirrel food then meet you at the car place... then we'll stop and get some breakfast sammiches to bring home... We're hungry :~)
Sounds good!
I'm leaving now.
And I'll buy the sammiches. ;-)
That's a bonus! I'm right behind ya. :~)
Steve sets up a table and has supplies for dads (or in some cases, grandpas) to use to make their kids' car compliant with the rules. He has a drill and BBs, so you can make the car lighter or heavier as needed...and also lots of graphite powder. It was amazing to see guys still working on their cars, right up to the end.
It's been a while since M did pinewood with the Scouts. But IIRC, it was much more cut-throat than this. This is very laid-back. Lots of laughing and kidding around.
One elderly man brought his grandson and was put out because he thought his grandson's car (which was bulky) shouldn't be racing against smaller cars...it should be seperate, or something. He didn't seem to realize that the kid decides how big the car is going to be. Grandpa wasn't happy, but that was the only stress there was, and it wasn't much.
You don't have a strict weight limit?
Yes. Matthew's car was very very thin, but weighted. This kid's car was tall, boxy, you know? Not weighted. They both qualified, but the elderly guy thought thinner cars should be in a different catagory than bulkier cars.
Except there aren't catagories...there's just the one race.
Does that make sense?
Yeah, that makes sense. It's all about the weight distribution on the car.
My understanding is that it can't be heavier than a certain amount and that you don't want it to be too light. (Maybe there's even a light-ness limit too...I don't know. I do know there's a heaviness limit.)
So some guys will get there and find on weigh-in that their car is too heavy. They come over to Steve's table and start drilling holes in their car to lighten it. Some will find that their car could be a little heavier, so they come over and start sticking BBs in their car!
Then they all shoot graphite into the tires! It's a mess!
Right, that's what Steve said. And he said the wheels have to be straight. The position of Matthew's wheels was off...that's what they worked on.
