The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Good grief. I must be going blind. Up until that last post I kept reading it as "CST." I need a nap.

In a not entirely unrelated story, Nana brought some magazines down the other day and said..."would you mail these to Viola? I know how she loves to read and, you know, she'll be completely blind before too long..."

I didn't say anything. We just mailed 'em.

Heh... I keep hearing this radio commercial for "build a bear". Essentially, it's "Guys are really stupid and can't possibly know what a woman wants. Call us and we'll design a bear for you and write the card so you don't say something stupid. Then we'll send it to the office so she can brag about how attentive you are to her coworkers".

I've yet to figure out if it's more insulting to men or women but man, it annoys me.

Yeah, I'm hearing that commercial too. I bet they sell a lot of bears.

Ecurbh was reading some posts last night from a raving moonbat that believes we'd be better off if we went back to hunting and gathering - no trade allowed. It'd save the planet and stuff.

Sound Politics: Global Warming Update

Scroll down to the posts by David Matthews. Hilarious stuff.

"Homo sapiens are already a terrible failure and at this point we can only make matters worse by consuming & polluting the rest of the world in order to save our technology via the self-exterimination of the humankind.

My sweetie already got her present... a new vacuum cleaner. Seriously. :)

We're nothing if not practical around here. :~)

That's... um... very practical. Not that I'm not a practical gal but Talon has instructions not to buy me a vacuum unless it doubles as a flamethrower.

I wouldn't ~think~ of going there...

"Not Valerie" likes the romantic, the thoughtful and the surprise. Between Valeneine's Day, Mother's Day, birthday and Christmas, trying to decide what to do has probably cut 10 years off of my life.

Romantic, thoughtful, and surprising?

Like if you washed the dishes?

Well, our old vacuum was making a horrible noise and beginning to smoke, so it was well on it's way to converting itself into a flamethrower. I don't think that's a good thing. ;~)

The new one looks like a space ship, but it doesn't shoot flames.

A good vacuum is not just a trifle in this house, it's vital to this house not reverting back into the woods.

The real policy ecurbh and I have so far had is that we don't give presents to each other. We may use the excuse of a holiday to buy something we need (like tack or a horse trailer) but at this point each of us writing checks out of the same checkbook to surprise each other with just hasn't made a lot of sense.

Who do you think does most of the dishes and laundry already?

Nana was helping for a while, but she hasn't done that in almost a year. And I practically have to beat Jr. (and do regularly) to empty the dishwasher.

Heh heh! That's how we are!

Steve finds things now and then and gives them to me as surprise. Like one time he found a nice London Fog raincoat/jacket in the park that had been there a while, it was covered with leaves. I could never afford such a nice jacket!

I washed it and it was good as new. I've had it for years.

Heh...I asked him if he shook any bones out of it.

Not knowing what a woman wants has less to do with stupidity and more to do with gambling. Rolling bones. Reading tea leaves or sheep's entrails. :-)

It's a total crap-shoot.

They were very helpful to me. :-)
