The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

just damn.

Winmag, please let her know that she and her family are in our prayers. And thank her for her husband's service to our country and our freedom.

Let us know if there is some more tangible way we can show our appreciation.

It would be nice to send her a card, or flowers from the group.

I think many personal notes would help, if winmag would either like to forward messages or pass on her email address to us in FRMail.

Brown Office Royal is what I learned to type on. Still miss the bell and ratchet sound. When I got my first computer at work, I was kinda hard on the key boards; I've learned a lighter touch since then.

Well, that must have been a shock, to say the least. Glad you're all set up with new pipes. Those old(er) pipes can be fragile. Yup, we knows about that, yes we do.

We signed up for the 24 ping list too. It's hard to follow the show and the thread but a lot of fun to try.

My Mom never got to the point where she didn't miss the sound and feel of a typewriter, even after years of using the computers. She didn't mind the old "clicky" keyboards quite as much as the newer ones, but even so, they bothered her.

Name sounds familiar. Our high school would have had old ones, when I took it in 1969-70, so there's no telling what they were.

Heh, we like the clicky-clack key boards too, the silent ones are kinda spooky.

These were the big ol' brown typewriters, green key pads with the white lettering worn off most of them. It was touch typing from the get-go. Circa 1964/1965 IRRC. I don't miss the round typewriter erasers with the attached brush and don't miss the carbon paper a-tall.
