The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Sounds like a fun Christmas at the Lil and Big Ol Freeper household! I'm looking forward to being closer to family so's we can have folks come for Christmas! I'm not doing any after Christmas sales for decorations because I don't want to have to pack any more of them! I found a few things in the basement that I'd left down there for some reason, and used those to decorate the mantel. It was nice having the tree in the den right next to the fireplace, so we could have a fire while opening gifts. We had to forego the stockings because Joseph couldn't find the box they were in. It was likely smack dab in the middle of a bunch of others. No matter, it was nice anyway.

We didn't have as many gifts to open this year since we're unemployed ;o), but it was nice anyway, and the kids liked what they got.

#1 son got me a lovely brushed nickel look candle holder from Crate and Barrel; it hasn't arrived yet, but he gave me a picture of it. It holds seven tealite candles in votive holders up on graduated height stands. It will look pretty in the middle of my table. #2 son got me a copy of "The Joy of Cooking". He was scandalized that I didn't already have a copy of it. ;o) Clare got me a HUGH mixing bowl with a handle and pouring spout. Joseph was the first to use it when he mixed filling for an apple pie last night and proclaimed it cool! And he got me a Microplane long, slim grater for zesting citrus, and grating cheese. That one was a surprise because it was something for which I hadn't asked. When he and Clare were shopping, on Christmas Eve, he saw it, and remembered what trouble we'd had trying to make some lemon zest for some cookies he made last week. We can't wait to try it out!

PE: rimfirecentral has provided a lot of info on one site, There's a number of threads going on the Rem 597 under Remington heading.

I'm a fan of peep sights (aka receiver sights) as well. Have a Williams on my Marlin 94 .38/.357. They are a very fast sight, giving quick target acquisition.

There's a good number of scopes and red-dot type sights out there, each with their own following. I don't have one myself, yet, but likely will get one soon.

So what did St. Nick end up bringing Luke and Jr.?

Jr. mostly asked for clothes and some baseball hats. So we got him that. And we suprised him with a poster size print of a really cool shot that came with his Senior pictures. He's standing there with his drumsticks, but they're on fire. I'll try to post it when I find the DVD (it's around here somewhere). We also surprised him with a less expensive digital camera...so he wouldn't break ours in Brazil next summer.

Luke got the Imaginext Castle he asked for. Along with a couple of (small) Star Wars Legos ships. And some assorted games and other building stuff (Magnetix, K'nex). Sister Mary Hamburner got him a "Roboraptor." It's pretty cool.

osage - no after Christmas sales here. Just not gonna to it.

And I forgot to mention my favorite line of the day yesterday. All the guests had left except the in-town relatives. My brother-in-law asked, "What can we do to help?"

I said, "Take yer kids and go home..."

Well....got back from shopping *shudder*.

I now have a piece of luggage that looks like everybody else's pieces of luggage. Maybe some duct tape with my initials in Elvish script (done tastefully with a Sharpie) will help identify it. Got some shirts at the local outlet store.
We still haven't found any of that Gardz stuff for the bathroom walls. Had to go to two grocery stores before finding eggnog and some decent looking collards.

My mom did her initials in silver glitter puff paint... and tied loud ribbons on each handle.

And right he was to be scandalized!! It's un-American for a kitchen to be without that book. I asked for a copy of the new edition (and so did SIL)... we each gave each other copies! Teehee. Great book. *GREAT* book!

Bah! I've had my trusty "Mississippi Cookbook", which we'd received as a wedding gift in 1975. Hadn't really missed "Joy of Cooking". ;o) He got me the older edition because the newer one didn't have the Vegetable Casserole/Pot Pie recipe that he'd made last Christmas, and that I liked a lot.

Good idea about the puffy paint! I've also seen designs stencilled in bright metallic or other color paints. One place that it's really noticeable is completely around the suitcase, following the zipper. Another idea is to create a 'sleeve' for the handle in a bright color that will stand out in the sea of black, navy and dark gray luggage.

I got....the red one. I think that's the first red thing I've ever bought...except for hummingbird feeders and my snow shovel.

I took my nephew with me today to the indoor range so he could try out the PS90 after I got the Zeiss red dot scope zeroed in. It was easy to keep all the rounds in the black at 50 yards on a 25-yard slowfire pistol target.

I couldn't zero in the green laser because it doesn't have enough windage adjustment to compensate for being so far to the side of the bore's centerline. I suspect I will have to shim.

Still, now that the red dot is zeroed, all I have to do is "steer" the green dot to match the red one. I don't even have to be on the range, or use ammo, to do that.

Even so, the green beam got high marks for coolness from firing points on either side of me. I just couldn't return the compliment because they were firing something on one side that had a muzzle blast that went 10 yards downrange. The other side was firing a .50 Desert Eagle. It was too much gun for the guy, because I watched him put three rounds in the metal roof baffles. He was a friend of the owner, so he didn't get his ass thrown out.

Hi all!!!

Matthew was happy with his cell phone. Joshua was happy with his bike. Santa brought Steve two porterhouse steaks. He brought me a heated foot massager (with memory foam.)

It's been fun.

(Woulda been more fun is the pipes under the sink hadn't burst. Heh!)

Elvish script, very cool. mmm RED.

I'm surprised about the number of black identical suitcases that come up the ramp. Mine is generally the last one; makes it easy to get mine.

Green light & Red dot, very cool Winmag. That sounds like a very cool set-up. Bet your nephew had a great time with that. Haven't seen one on the range so far.

Too bad you had to share the range with an idjit. Sounds like he was definitely overgunned with that Desert Eagle.

I wonder if you could use bio-hazard or radiation warning stickers.

Sounds like a good Christmas was had by all :~)

Well, then there's Nana. She was happy with everything she got. 'Cept the 'lectric blanket we got her don't work and we gotta exchange it.

But everyone noticed she's gone downhill. For one thing, she didn't talk much. That ain't Nana. It ain't any old woman I know.

I took some chairs back to my brother-in-law's grandma this afternoon. We borrowed them from her after the Christmas Eve get together. She's in her 80s, is on oxygen and they think her heart may fail at anytime.

She said, "I don't think Nana looked well...."

Wife just informed me that Nana can't go this week. So instead of us all going to my Mom's and then to Papa's family get together, I'm just taking theboys to my Moms.

I have red, too, but I'm going to put some identifying mark that's immediately noticeable on the luggage spin-around. There is more red luggage in the skies now than there was 5 years ago, when I bought mine.
