The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

That was some goooood stew! Ecurbh really did a good job of keeping us fed throughout. ;-)

And I'll echo the thanks to Ramius for bringing down that generator! Made all the difference. Heh...I laughed again remembering ecurbh's face when that electric heater got pulled out of the Jeep...with the cord dangling.

Back from church. Stopped at a grocery on the way home...they still didn't have power there. They were running the registers and card machines and some of the refrigeration and freezer units on generator, but it was pretty dark in there and they didn't have any vegetables or meats or deli stuff or anything like that - mostly just canned and packaged foods. Kind of fascinating, in a way.

It's rather bright...

But warm! Did end up with a multiday case of hat-head, though...

Tam slept under the blankets the first night when it was so cold. I encouraged it...

And Cisco slept on the bed, too, though uneasily as he doesn't usually sleep with me.

Halvah was just ticked off the whole time. She doesn't like her routine interrupted. So...she didn't want anything to do with anyone. Every so often that night, she'd jump onto the bed, remember she hated everyone, slap everyone around and then run off to a corner of the room again to grumble.

Hate it when the cat starts slapping people around!

Yep, sounds like you had a Hobbit Hurricane; smaller than normal, but with all the same issues! Glad to hear the power is back on, though!

Just made my first batch of spritz ever. Green Christmas trees with yellow stars. I think I'm going to turn into a spritzing fool before morning...

Considering the time of the year, my vote is Nog; LSA says a glass of wine.

Money, warmth, and a weapon, all in one.

ROTFL! Multi-tasking, indeed!

You mean spritz cookies that you squeeze through a tube with the changeable discs? I used to have a set like that, but I don't know where it is. Might be in the basement.

The first critical clean up has been done... cleaned the roof of limbs and accumulated debris. This needed done even before the storm, as you can see.

This is our roof.

Better!

Accumulated debris on the roof was a big problem when we got a big snowfall a couple years ago - Entmoot year, as a matter of fact... when it started to rain and melt, the debris kept it from draining well, and it was very near to failing. We could barely open the front door, the house was under so much stress. Cardboard houses, you know... We're such good tenants. :~)

I love making those...usually do them every year. They're pretty easy, but look so fancy that they always impress.

I've never gotten too fancy with colors, though...just sprinkled 'em with colored sugar and such.

This year I don't have a working oven. Maybe I can talk my sister-in-law into letting me do some baking at her house at some point...

One of the couples in the choir invited us all to a Christmas Brunch after Mass today. They had made some delish homemade egg-nog. It was tasty, but didn't have enough bourbon. ;o) I drank three little espresso cups of it, and it must have mellowed me out nicely, because when I got home, I lay down for 'just a few minutes' because I was going to take Clare to a performance of "The Messiah" over in Worcester.

Woke up two hours later when SirKit started hammering the new trim on the outside of the window of our room. Needless to say, we didn't make it to the concert.
