The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Eragon the Movie--Dont!

Unless you want to take the kiddies to it or just need to kill time. The Star Wars theme comparisons are everywhere and major portions of the book were simply not there, even introduced elements that are not consistent with the first book.

There's even a bit of Harry Potter thrown in!

Mmmm....nog...

Guess what. Plaza 3 has a new restaurant on 135th. Silly me. I woulda gone to the Plaza and been the only one there!

Okay...so the invite didn't state the address and the new restaurant isn't on the websit.

Is the book any good?

I left it alone because the first thing I thought of was "how original...change the 'd' to an 'e' and you have a title."

So later on I'll not be reading that horror story about the quiet matrons, The Silence of the Ma'ams.

Didn't know that either; well we don't get over there much, surprised the invite didn't specify the location.

135th Street, good ol' 150 Highway, aka Outer Belt Highway; Enventually MoDOT will four lane our section (US 71 to M 291)like your side did.

I liked the book. My son and I read it at the same time so we some fun times discussing it in the car on the way to school in the mornings. The 2nd book is a bit less entertaining, I think it's because you're used to his writing style, but it's still a good read. What's really amazing is the Author was around 15 when when he started writing the first book. He's 23 now.

Eragon the Movie--Dont!

Ehh, I kinda liked it. I'll caveat that by saying that I haven't read the book (yet; I now intend to read it) so I don't know how true to the book the movie was. As for the similarities to Star Wars, that's because Star Wars repeated a story pattern that was standardized going back to ancient myths (see Joseph Campbell).

The special effects were good and the scenery was beautiful; the story and acting were ok, IMHO. It was at least as enjoyable as the adaptation of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, I thought.

As always, YMMV! ;)

Thanks Bear, I enjoyed the L-W-W or as OT calls it 'the movie with talking beavers'...so I just may have to check it out. Definitely worth a reading, I give it a shot. Got a new Tony Hillerman going now. Legendary Lt. Joe Leaphorn solving another case.

You're welcome... but, if it is as different from the book as Rb ver. 2.0 says, then I may not have enjoyed the movie if I had read the book first.

Hillerman was one of my Dad's favorites. I haven't read any yet, but plan to someday.
