Thanks for your thumbs-up to it. I was planning on seeing tonight, but since I have to get up "early" (I'm not a morning person) tomorrow, I decided against it. I'll probably see it on Sunday afternoon.

It's a masterpiece.

Arrggh! I'm dying to see it! Hopefully, maybe, if I'm lucky, Sunday...

Should get a gazillion Oscar nods and at least 4-5 Oscars, but Mel kind of made a no no with the Jewish vote in that academy IMO.

Despite Mel's stupidity, this film is historically significant as one of the best ever made.

But also on Semler's résumé are Kevin Costner's great work, "Dances with Wolves,"

Dean Semler did the three "Mad Max" films.

Perfect choice for cinematographer here.

Not sure, but I think Mexico and Costa Rica.

Separate note, I just finished reading this http://www.geocities.com/muslimapocalyptic/future_is_for_islam.htm from your FR homepage.

Am I correct to understand that they are suggesting Jesus will become a Moslem and will take over after Mehdi??!!

Close. They think Jesus (Isha) always was a Muslim -- the Apostles and especially St. Paul got it all wrong. On top of that, the Church Fathers corrupted the New Testament text to divinize Isha and create belief in a Holy Trinity. Isha did not die on the cross and rise from the dead. But Isha did ascend bodily into heaven.

When the Mahdi appears, Isha will descend to Jerusalem on a cloud and join him in fighting the Dajjal. But the Mahdi leads the prayers, and Isha follows with everyone else. Some think Isha strikes the fatal blow killing the Dajjal. Isha breaks all the crosses, destroys all the churches and chapels, and kills all the pigs. (Interpret "pig" however you like, either literally or as an epithet.) Isha upbraids the Christians for calling him divine, and chastizes the Jews for not recognizing him as the messiah.

There are no Hadith saying exactly what Isha will be doing after the death of the Dajjal, but I've never found any Muslim writers who expect him to take up political rule. He's supposed to generally settle down, marry, raise some kids, and preach Islam for 40 years, and then (finally, after all these centuries) die and receive a Muslim burial.

This isn't the right thread to discuss this. But, I'm very curious.

"They think Jesus (Isha) always was a Muslim"

So, why did Mohammad come along to preach Islam after Jesus and why did people become Christians if Jesus (Isa) was a Muslim?

I take Dajjal to be the equivalent of Antichrist?

Why would Isa destroy churches, chapels, crosses? The only reason would be that the muslims would want it so to promote their own cult, using a "holy" being such as Jesus. Mohammad was sinful and unholy. How can one assume the "comforter" i.e. the holy spirit to be Mohammad when he killed so many? Certainly, nothing comforting about him or his "Sharia" Law. Also, no wonder none of the so-called Muslim scholars assign a political role to Isa. Additionally, they think Mehdi, a Muslim will be the "leader". Politics and Islam have always been interwined especially since Mohammad's move to Medina. Koran does endorse the unification of Church & State, right? The power of Islam comes from Politics and Wars. Therefore, Jesus (Isa) as a purely spiritual and holy being can never be a political figure or leader for Muslims.

Frankly, I think Islam heavily borrowed from Christianity and Judaism. It also added some other rules and rituals such as: Ablution, to discipline & regulate the day to day life of its initial target audience i.e. the unclean and savage desert-dwelling Arabs. Of course, Judgement Day is a concept that originated in Zoroastrianism and thousands of years before Christ.

I wouldn't call Islam a religion; it is a cult and political doctrine; and the Koran, similar to Mohammad, I believe is the epitome of imperfection & contradictions.

The think that Isha paved the way for Muhammed. Isha taught a lot of about "submission to no one but God" but Mohammed added stuff that Isha left out.

I take Dajjal to be the equivalent of Antichrist?

I prefer to think of Dajjal as the Anti-Mahdi and Anti-Isha (lol).

Seriously, I took the nick because it's the one word I want to teach everyone. "Hey folks, wake up! They think we are the Dajjal and that it's inevitable that we get killed by them because of prophecies in the hadith!"

My big complaint about Prof. David Cook is that he "translates" Dajjal instead of teaching us the word. But the Dajjal of the hadith bears as much resemblance to the AntiChrist of the Bible as the Isha of the hadith resembles the Jesus of the Bible.

Why would Isa destroy churches, chapels, crosses?

Crosses are graven images. Churches and chapels are for worshipping the Holy Trinity; so Isha would destroy them to stop people from worshipping him as "Son of God" and would institute a "there is no god but Allah and Isha is just a prophet" policy.

How can one assume the "comforter" i.e. the holy spirit to be Mohammad when he killed so many?

The logic is, of course, that it's okay because the only ones killed were Jahiliyyahs usurping God's place.

Thanks for that link. I had to take 3 aspirins *lol*.. Largely confirmed what I thought about their mindset. Something I found particularly interesting was that he thought "precise sciences" were OK to borrow from the West but not more abstract or conceptual ones where one has to think outside of the box and for onself. You know what I mean?

Truly mind-numbing. Sayid Qutb's "Milestones" reads like all the worst elements of a 1960's anarchist tract mixed with all the worst elements of a "holier-than-thou" religious tract.

If you stop your car at a red light you are worshipping the men on the Traffic Commission. Obeying a law is a form of worship. God is sovereign, hence God is the Sole Law-giver; any human who legislates is usurping God's place. Freedom means freedom from all human laws, and obedience only to God.

In a democratic republic, everyone has a hand in the law-making, so we are all setting ourselves above God. And whenever we obey the laws passed, we are slaves, worshipping men as God.

The jihadist is a hero because he is trying to free the rest of mankind from the tryanny of false gods.

The twists in their logic are just incredible!

You've been duped. This is the liberal line for this movie. The liberals are busy denouncing it because it's dangerous. You can't worship failed cultures and enjoy this movie. Liberals are all about worshipping anything anti-western so it's a rude crack upside the head with a flying mallet to them.

Do not dog this man. He's lockstep with our Pope in demonstrating the decency of divine thinking. Read a liberal rag as I did over lunch (Houston Press) and they are fast to denounce this movie as horrible sadism. The sad truth about indigenous people hurts. They made sport out of tormenting each other as a means to control. The ending is enough to make a liberal become unglued.
