Jerome Bettis' father dies The father of former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis died today of an apparent heart attack while driving home after a workout at the gym, said Bettis' manager, Jahmal Dokes, a long-time family friend.
John Bettis, 61, was found in his car by Bloomfield, Mich., police after he apparently pulled over while being stricken. Mr. Bettis, who retired last year after working 31 years as chief electrical inspector for the city of Detroit, attended nearly every Steelers game in which Jerome, the youngest of his three children, played.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, and two other children, John, 37, and Kimberly, 39.

Prayers for Bettis and family.
I remember seeing him in the stands at Detroit. Great Moment.
Not to make light of the tragedy, but now I know why I don't go to the gym.

61 is WAY too young.
He raised one of the good guys in pro sports ... excellent legacy to have in life.
btw ... the gym may have extended his life ...
We can never pick our moment, but he will be remembered through the fine children he raised. That is life's greatest legacy -- far more significant and lasting than trophies or rings.
Oh no!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bettis family.
How sad - that is way too young. Prayers for the Bettis family.
Prayers offered up for the peace of mind of Jerome and the Bettis family.
