Shula had one good season in 4. His team suffered from a severe lack of discipline. He failed to discipline one player for a DUI and others did things they were not disciplined for. The Sports Info Dept. would set up interviews, other meetings and the players just failed to show up, wasting everyone's time and efforts, and Shula did nothing. Shula was too hard headed to change. He was not going to change any of his coaches. He thinks he is another Steve Spurrier and can run the offense and team at the same time. Wrong. There are few head coaches who can run either the D or O and the entire team at the same time. Head Coaches are like company CEO's. They have to hire decent help and let them do their jobs, make the game plans, and come to the coach and finalize the plans. Shula would not hold anyone responsible, even his assistants. He hired an O coordinator who had not been a coach for like 5 years, was in either insurance or a used car salesman or some think like that. While he was a "nice" guy, he was not a head coach for a major football program. What Alabama needs to do after they hire the coach is fire stupid Mal Moore the AD. He is the one who has made several stupid moves and lack of moves. He hired Mike Dubose, Mike Price and Run Fran Run before Shula. So, Moore needs to go also.
