The ***OFFICIAL*** Weekend Singles' Thread -- (November 23-26, 2006)Thanksgiving 2006
DollyCali and All of the Singles & their FRiends | November 23, 2006 | Dolly Howard

Posted on 11/23/2006 4:45:18 AM PST by DollyCali

In this world of pain, confusion and question, today we give pause. We don’t today focus on the half empty cup but rather CHOSE to look at the joy of life, the blessings of life and the friendships of life.

Today we give thanks to God for his gift of life & blessings in this troubled world.

We give thanks to friends and family for the gifts of friendship and joy they share with us

Today is day ONE of the LONG 4-day Thanksgiving Weekend here at the Singles Thread.

We are thankful that Jim & John Robinson have given us a cozy cyber room in the forum for us to chat.

Our singles “family” is diverse & NOT without internal problems. But we are doing our best to be here for our friends of all ages & all walks of life. If you are single or a friend of any of us, you are most welcome to drop in & chat & share. The doors will be open all weekend to visit.

May our God keep all in His protective love.

Whether with a group or alone, whether at home or traveling , whether content or troubled, may TODAY be a day of peace & of reflection of the blessings we do have.

Feel free to share your greetings, graphics, joys, pains. This is a thread of openness & friendship & sharing.

I am grateful for many things this day..my God, my family, my friends, but profoundly grateful I was born in America. I am thankful to my president for his leadership and the fine example in marriage he provides. I am thankful for the troops who are serving and far from the homes & families that today have an empty seat. I love my country

Dolly.

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given
Jesus Christ, His Son

Let the poor say "I am rich"
Because of what the Lord has done for us

but of the glory that remains.
Go outside into the fields, nature and the sun,
go out and seek happiness in yourself and in God.
Think of the beauty that again and again discharges itself

howdy everybody

hope everyone has a good turkey day...

in briefly--today's going to be spent finishing one paper on the Supreme Court (Gonzales v. Planned Parenthood) and starting a 15-20pg term paper dealing with:

-Government and Morality
-Patrick Devlin
-J.S. Mill on Liberty
-Hate principle
-American Law
-Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body

(and how they all have an impact on American society, with particular regard to Politics)

Fun, fun, fun...

I Et Too Much!

I et too much, and I know it’s a sin,
But I couldn’t resist, and I’ve done it agin.
It’s a little light eating, ‘cause turkeys are birds,
I was quite justified when I went back for thirds.

To make it all healthy, and to balance the plate,
I added some vegetables to the meat that I ate.
There were so many entrées, I just couldn’t stop,
I’m just planning ahead for some weight I may drop.

That lean times are coming’s more certain each day,
So I’m just getting ready in my own special way.
Such a dream of a meal that I thought of a pinch,
To be sure of my waking -- now I can’t move an inch!

And now I look out at the carnage I’ve wrought,
I wonder what came of the hunger I brought,
It all was so good and I sampled each dish,
A meal such as this seemed to answer my wish.

So now I must rest and prepare for what’s next,
The “raid of the ‘fridge” on some subtle pretext!
I’ll be settling down for a good Winter’s snooze,
And I need to be ready in case hunger renews.

Ah, man, can't believe it is Thanksgiving already. One thing I'm thankful for is that when Boo became deathly ill this year, a week after laying Greystone to rest, is that we pulled him out of it and he is alive and well. I know we lost two cats this year and I'll admit that I am not happy with that but it could have been worse, we could have lost three. On other things, looks lik this is a working weekend for me, I have to work a full day tomorrow and maybe a half a day or more on Sunday. It is half year close, second most important closing and we are short handed. Still, I'm thankful for the job I have, very much so, since I've been in the economic funk for a while before that.

I think I full well understand your "pet pain" . I miss Oliver so much. I am now in retrospect so being thankful for the 3+ years we had together..grateful for 2 pups I have now for sure.

Life is full of twists & turns.. pain & joy.

Glad you are keeping busy work-wise & making some money. Know it can be disheartening to be broke all the time~

Well..... I had a nice thanksgiving!!

Unexpectedly, we had a LOT more guests here for Thanksgiving than we had planned on. My cousin Brenda was here, of course, but my cousin John, and his kids all decided to come too(my mom had invited them a couple of weeks ago, but they didn't act like they were coming. Last night--we found out that they were going to be here.) he is the one who got divorced last spring.

I think we all had a pretty good time. We watched "surviving Christmas", after dinner, and then, his daughter had me download a bunch of songs on her new Ipod, like Hannah Montana and such. (he has a computer, but dial-up only, and that makes it hard to download much. I have roadrunner, and can do multiple things at once, and download Itunes songs in seconds.)I think it was a nice "break" for all of them--and the kids sure had fun.

We all had ham and turkey. I got some extra ham last night, when I found out they were coming. Some ate the ham(me and my sister HATE turkey)--others ate turkey.

All had fun that is, EXCEPT for my cat, Tiki.

As soon as he saw John's kids, and they approached him, he was GONE!! He hid for the rest of the time they were here. They tried to "flush him out", but were unsuccessful. He came out shortly after they all left, around 5:00.

So, I had a pretty nice day. I WILL be working tomorrow, maybe not quite a full day, but most of one. It was optional, and I decided to take the option.

How about all of you??

The last couple of weeks have been REALLY crazy, but I had a nice Thanksgiving. Funny how after all the craziness, it's suddenly been very peaceful and relaxing over the holidays.
