You're being disingenuous or are just plain ignorant.
Those stats are based on AKC registrations of purebreds.
The only breeds of the "pit bull" type they register are the AmStaff and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
They do not even include the American Pit Bull Terrier.
What percentage of "pit bull" types owned in the US do you think are purebred Amstaffs or Staffie Bulls?
Do you intend to have an intelligent discussion of the problem
or are you just another fanatic on the blind hate bandwagon?

Not only is Kanawa correct about that list being from the AKC, which doesn't acknowledge the pit bull as a breed, but if Los Angeles animal shelter kills 6,000 pit bulls alone each year, there must be a pretty large number of them. They do adopt them out also.

Look at numbers from the UKC and ADBA combined with shelter statistics and you will see they far outnumber most breeds. Currently they represent about 10% of the entire population of dogs, big and small. That is a pretty large chunk considering the AKC alone registers 150 different breeds and that number jumps to twice that many when counting the UKC.
