A 92-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday after she fired at three narcotics officers trying to serve a warrant at her house, officials said. Neighbors and relatives said it must have been a case of mistaken identity. Police said they had the right address.
Police said the woman, whose name was not released, was the only person home at the time, and had lived there for about 17 years.
As the plainclothes Atlanta police officers approached the house about 7 p.m., a woman inside started shooting, striking each of them, said Officer Joe Cobb, a police spokesman. One was hit in the arm, another in a thigh and the third in a shoulder.
The officers were taken to a hospital for treatment, and all three were conscious and alert, police said.
Sarah Dozier, identified as a niece of the woman, told WAGA-TV that there were never any drugs at the house.
"My aunt was in good health. I'm sure she panicked when they kicked that door down," Dozier said. "There was no reason they had to go in there and shoot her down like a dog."

Interesting. Does anyone have more details on this story?

So far from Atlanta media
The officers were not in uniform.
The house had burgler bars on every window.
The police say they had a warrant, they knocked first and announced they were police. They say the warrant was served at the correct address.
The neighborhood has been very run down but has been undergoing renovation for about 10 years with new expensive houses being built on vacent lots
Quotes from neighbors:
It happened about 7 PM while nearby neighbors were sitting out on porches.
The woman had been fearful because a 75 year old woman had been raped in the neighborhood recently.
"I heard 'pow, pow, pow, pow,' " said Jackson. "A whole lot of gunfire, really fast." She estimated the number between 16 and 24. She said within five minutes, "about 20" police cars swarmed into the area.

BTW, she didn't just fire at three officers, she shot all three.

Obviously this is deadly serious here in Atlanta - she's dead and three cops wounded.
But yeah, I had that same thought.

I can't believe she shot three police before they killed her? 92 years old! Common something is not adding up here.... Perhaps I am wrong, and I love to give the good guys the benefit of the doubt. It just strikes me as very odd.

Oh yeah... real odd.
Several weird things... one thing the Atlanta police always release the names of wounded officers but not in this case.
A female relative who didn't live there said said her aunt owned a pistol. "I don't know what kind and it was rusty, but apparently it was working well." And yet three cops thinking they were charging a drug den let her shoot all of them.
The police held a press conference announcing they killed her without notifying relatives of her death.
Here's the understatement of the day, if not the year from the assistant chief " He said the incident is still under investigation and "will be for days.""

BTW, I don't usually wish people harm but if some young relative was dealing enough drugs out of her house to cause this kind of raid and get her killed and three cops shot, I hope he suffers.

At the moment there are too many inconsistancies in this story. Breaking the door down when there are burglar bars? I can't recall houses with burglar bars that didn't have them on the doors as well, and one isn't going to just break those kind in. Did the shooting start before or after the breakin The old right address problem? Was it or wasn't it? Sneaking up on 92 year old women, could cause an adverse reaction, even it it wasn't considered sneaking. I'm not getting the died again part in post 2, but then if it's a joke, I never was very fast.

I wonder...since the neighborhood was undergoing renovations and this woman had been there several years...perhaps someone became too impatient waiting for her to die so they called police to give them a hot tip.
I guess the property will be free to renovate now.....
My grandmother is 92. She is still pretty spry. She lives her life every day expecting each one to be her last. I guess maybe this lady was living the same way.

Some updates from the live 6AM local Atlanta news WSB - all police officers are expected to recover.
The niece who is saying they "shot her down like a dog" is also saying she gave the house the 92 year old woman. The niece looks to be in her 40's and pretty well dressed. She's really angry and fairly loud but well spoken - certainly does not come across as a drug dealer.
Last night this station was leading with pictures of the police looking serious. Now they are leading with pictures of what looks like a happy, sweet old lady.

The neice also claims the aunt had a gun permit - i.e. no felony convictions. For the video it looks like the door had burgler bars too - I'm guessing the officers may have been delayed getting inside by the bars.
Police say "they were acting on a tip."
