Looks like Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is trying to be forced on to one's computer. My updates just converted Explorer 6 to 7.
Slowness caused by anti phiss is not a problem, error or bug, it is a FEATURE!
I like the fact that you can set up multiple home pages so it can automatically open several of the pages you frequent. Work (cover) home page and Free Republic in another tab, for example. And Youtube in another just for fun.
We learned years ago that Microsoft has no new products, only bug fixes that cause system crashes.

I'm on autoupdate, too. I should check to see if it's happened.
Having tried to install it several times and not turned off my anti-spyware; antivirus software to accomplish it--never happened. So, now, do they have an automatic workaround for that problem?
Interesting. I have firefox but it won't download from webshots.com at all.
With IE.7 you couldn't browse a FTP directory and change the sort. I sort by time stamp, file size or name to find specific stuff I need. Can't do it with IE 7.
Your experience stops at W2K. You don't even have XP experience. You should upgrade your users just for your own job security.
I'm just rattlin' your cage. A huge hospital I used to work at is still on W2K. I don't really get it because I don't have a problem with XP.

BTW, My RAID DRIVE--backup--C drive may have a problem that SYSTEM MECHANIC 6 won't fix.
Have been wondering about putting the OS onto one of the 4 gig USB2 flash drives. Would that work? I hate to keep buying duplicate SCSI drives that wear out every year or so. Sheesh.

Been using Firefox for over a year and I'm pleased with it.
I can't prove it, but I think IE7 caused Mozilla Thunderbird to stop opening URL links in Firefox. Even though Firefox was still set as the Default browser, for the purpose of links opening in the default browser, it wasn't.
I had to force Firefox to make itself the Default:

And would Windows XP-P operate off a USB drive?
As for Windows XP off of a USB drive - sorry, mate, I don't know - I don't use Windows if I can help it.

I just finished installing XP on a new SLI Athlon 4000+ box I built to play Doom. I let it install all of the upgrades automatically. We'll see how well IE7 works next week between Doom breaks.

IMHO SMART COMPUTING MAGAZINE http://www.smartcomputing.com/ had a great article on selecting a Linux system based on YOUR needs, not one flavor fits all (remember that there may be specific drivers, programs etc that LINUX has not yet developed and you may have to go geek big time, but all the basics are there). Third world countries cannot afford to pay MSFT for their OS and Software, thus India has 300,000 UNIX / LINUX programmers based on my reading. If something is missing, I am sure it will be out there in no time and ALL related programs are FREE.
The magazine is EXCELLENT and when you subscribe to one of their paper mags, you gain Internet access to all of their 5 mags, including past archives. They will also answer ANY question you have. After each acronym, the MAG spells out what that means and the magazine deals in basics. As always, we all go back to basics and when you start with LINUX you will need the basics; when MSFT issues it next OS (next Feb?) we will all be back to basics on a lot if things.

Interesting. I just checked my main PC, which downloaded a different update just yesterday, and it's still on IE6.x, although I literally never use IE.
However, as I was typing this, another PC I have on my desk here at the office just popped up with the Windows Update asking me to install IE7. Hmm...
Anyone have thoughts on whether I should allow this when it comes up on my main system? I don't use IE for anything, but pretty much every other business app I use is Microsoft. Will this update improve any of that functionality? Conversely, will it hurt the way that all my MS apps currently play very nicely with Firefox?
