Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Looks like Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 is trying to be forced on to one's computer. My updates just converted Explorer 6 to 7.

I specifically didn't order MS word as I paid for it 2 years ago. Came with a 45 day free trial MS small business. Had to uninstall it to load my program.

That's really not true, simply have Windows Update inform you after downloading any patches, before the are installed.
IE7 is on Windows Update as a priority update so if you have auto turned on, here it comes.

Are you aware on any IE7 problems, MS makes bloatware, but with a 90%+ share of the OS market, seems like most folks have drunk the kool aid.

start menu >> settings >> control panel >> add/remove programs >> click on show updated files >> scroll down to MS IE7 >> click remove.

Then in your MS program updates, turn off auto update, and where it wants to upgrade IE7, uncheck it, and click on "do not show again"

then install Fedora 5 Linux, and opera web browser. you'll be impressed.

My wife's PC is now running IE7. It seems to be slower because of the anti-phishing feature. The tool bars are less configurable than in IE6. That sucks. They also take up more real estate. That sucks. It seems to use a different display engine; the window resizing animation looks strange compared to other applications. That's at least odd.

I haven't compared the two for memory footprint, etc..

Microsoft's main objective seems to be making operating systems and applications that are slower, larger and more demanding. Somewhere in the shuffle, quality, reliability and efficiency got laid off.

I like Firefox.

MadIvan is right, with the Phishing filter on IE 7 is slow, noticeably SLOW.

The day when Microsoft let you make the decisions about what gets installed on your computer have come and gone.

How many PCs do you have running Windows? And how long have you been a Windows user?

I have never had anything MS foisted on me without my express knowledge or consent.
I'm not saying your sentiment is incorrect, just the statement that MS has taken the decision making process out of the user's hands.

Your's too, huh? I turned off the automatic update because I couldn't do ANY work without it popping up every other minute. I tried to download IE 7 last week, but it was a bust.

Firefox is awesome! I hardly ever use IE anymore. I don't know if Firefox works for updating MS office software, though.

Just go to add remove programs in control panel and it will roll back.

I tried that this a.m. and it didn't work for me. One, it's not listed in "add remove programs", so I had to go to "add remove windows components", removed it(or so it seemed), then dl'd IE6, dbl cliked it and it said "you have a newer version of IE installed already" and quit. Guess I'm stuck with it now.

btw, as much as I use firefox I must say it can't handle uploading attachments in yahoo mail. Why? Who knows, but when I MUST upload attachments in yahoo mail I MUST go to IE.

I restored my computer to this morning to get rid of it.

Uh, why? It's a big improvement over IE 6. And you can run Firefox with or without IE 7.

've been using Mozilla/Firefox for more than four years, and highly recommend it. (Be sure to get Thunderbird for email too.)

I too use Firefox, almost exclusively. Another good browser is Opera 9. Version 9 is much better than previous Opera versions. It has the fastest Javascript interpreter I've found (faster than either Firefox or IE) and is mostly compatibile with Firefox.

For email I use Gmail. I like the way it streamlines the workflow and organizes your mail. It also has a highly effective spam filter. I mostly use it thru its AJAX web interface, however, when composing mail, I sometimes use Thunderbird. (The web interface doesn't support imbedding images in HTML mail, however, the web interface displays them just fine. So, I just start up Thunderbird, compose, and send.)
