Idiots stampeding for playstation 3
WHERE? Where is it???? Please....
Capitalism and free enterprise at its' best! ;)
Watch the South Park episode Cartmanland season 5 episode 6.
They are being led around by their lust of envy.
If God wants to move more product, he's going to have to consider the market.
For on thing, he's been running the same platform for years. When's the last time He's had a graphics update? The graphics engine is good, sure, but so good that there's been no patch in a trillion years? Where's the new content? It took us forever to come up with things as simple as fire and the wheel, and those were in game developments by player characters. (Why wasn't that in the user manual? Oh, probably because it was only released 2,000 years ago).
Speaking of which, most of the other players in this game are griefers, spammers, or ninja looters. The noobs are obnoxious, and trying to get powerleveled before they're ready. Everyone else is stuck on a level treadmill, just getting enough exp and gold to get by. It's unreasonably hard to find a good team, and the rez function hasn't worked since the user manual was released.
I went down to a local service center to speak with a company representative, but that went nowhere. I waited in line for over an hour, but all they did was hit me up for some service fees and asked me to check back in next Sunday. Thus far none of my complaints have been answered.
I really don't see how He expects to compete with the PS3 in today's competitive market.
No, the guy was shot by a robber because he refused to turn over his money. I would say that the victim was the stupid one in this case, but then again, if he was a paid line sitter, he might have thought he faced a worse fate if he left empty handed.
Check out this one for $15,100. The fool!

Thats right. Like I said, 30% of our economy is based purely on the concept of Instant Gratification.
The number that was shown to me on another thread was ~$840 for for the $599 PS3. But without knowing what the supplier contracts and Sony internal transfer/purchases actually cost Sony, the whole estimate is just a WAG (Wild A$$ed Guess). I don't buy that Sony would choose to lose 50 to 80% of the manufacturing cost per unit sold.
You beat me by a few minutes. Guess the guy wants bragging rights.
The only difference that has been explained so far between PS 2 & PS 3 is the latter has much higher definition. Other than that... $300.00? I'll wait till next fall. Same with the HD TV. Prices will continue to drop. Then they'll come up with something else.
Yes.
Exclusive products generate their own Marketing, which is worth MILLIONS to the manufacturer.
How so? If everyone is buying your product for $6000, and reselling it for $2k+ on the internet, why not just say "There are only 400,000 units available. Everyone can buy one (1) unit, for $2000, from our website." It's the same exclusivity, but instead of making $600, they'd be making $2000, and selling the same numbers of units.
Am I the only one that sees this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
"If everyone is buying your product for $6000" should read $600 instead.
Then why not sell it at $1000, since they're being resold for more anyway? Why fail to break even so some slob eBay vendor can devour your profits like a hungry fat man at an all-you-can-eat buffet?
They make it up in royalty and online fees
The millions to Sony is in marketing costs that they DONT have to pay to achieve this result. Check your morning news: Who ISNT doing a PS3 story this morning? How many parents are hoping to bribe a child into better grades with the promise of a PS3 under the tree? Answer: THOUSANDS. Seen a PS3 commercial from Sony? Nope, they didn't have to make any.
Beyond that, there is the concept of 'Economies of Scale' which says that the more units made, the cheaper each unit becomes for the producer. There will be a break even point for Sony in a couple of years, where through game licensing, periperals, and other stuff, the thing will become a cash cow.
The marketing will tell your children that without a PS3, they will be the unpopular kid on the block, which will lower his self esteem, leading to a less productive life, where he will make less money, and have an uglier wife and dumber children where the cycle will repeat unless they buy their children the PS6!
And they will be right!
I love this stuff.
Yes there is. I'm a geek but, good Lord, I'd at least wait for theprice to drop.
Besides, almost everything is on PC.
I still haven't got a PS 1 or 2.
Pfft. Y'all are amateurs. Here in Richmond, we have our stampedes and riots for four-year-old clapped-out $50 iBooks.

I understand what you're saying, and appreciate you taking the time to break it down like that. Clearly, there are a number of secondary effects that will catapult this product into the green. It just seems to me that they're leaving a lot of money on the table. EBay sales show that the market is willing to bear considerably more than what they're charging.
