What if you get shot waiting for your PS3 ?

Then you're the feature story in the NYT, page one, above the fold.

And somewhere in there they'll somehow manage to blame Bush for not ensuring enough PS3's were made to satisfy customer demand, thereby creating this "national tragedy".

He had a gun and was threatening the officers.

I didn't see any threat.

He never raised the gun or pointed it at anyone.

The dog was released and the perp moved the gun - barely - and how ever many cops there were opened up.

Looked to me like he was tossing the gun down when the cops opened fire.

With an unco-operative suspect like that threatening to shoot in a tension filled situation like that, it was a lose/lose situation if he moved the gun. If I were in that situation and it were me or him, it would be him. I wouldn't be waiting around to see what he was intending to do with the gun after the threats he made.

Well, then, how about listening. He said he had thirteen rounds and was going to use them.

Nope, that was only after they started shooting. Also,I'd be *very* interested in seeing that punk's rap sheet.I wonder how many felonies it would include...how many references to the Crips or the Bloods there are.

Leaving only a couple of cops lets the bad guy - who cannot be relied upon to act rationally - think that maybe he can take them. You also have to calculate what the collateral damage zone would be from the bad guy (not to mention the good guys) and evacuate it. Will the population sit still for a one square mile evac zone for 24 hours or how ever long it takes to wait out the perp? By then, you'll have news helicopters. the media feeding frenzy, and potentially the perp's friends who, after having seen the standoff on TV, decide to come to the rescue.

More restraint was probably called for but we don't know the full set of circumstances. I'm thinking zapping the guy with a million candle power spotlight whould have disoriented him long enough to send in the dog and get him subdued. But that's easy for me to say.

I'll also make note that no matter how much range time the cops put in, it will be of marginal help when under live-fire conditions against someone able to shoot back. Don't know how that can be remedied.

I think the reprobate kept his word and shot the dog. He got one shot off at the police after they opened up and then he aimed and fired at the dog as the dog closed in. It looks like he got off two shots at the dog at close range before he was shot down. What a fool.

Cordially,

You're right. It's like the principle that bad news always gets broadcast because good news is boring. Who's going to go to youtube to see a good cop doing his duty properly?

More likely aiming for the dog, as he said he would. Tossing the gun down doesn't match his repeated threats. Yours is an unlikely observation and has to ignore much of what came before.

I don't know about you,my friend, but if I'm ever confronted by a cop and I'm armed, the *first* thing I'm gonna do is let the cop take my weapon and the *last* thing I'm gonna do is to hold it in my hand and threaten to fire it at *anything* or *anyone*.

But that's just me,I guess.

Although I certainly could have missed it,I didn't see him fire any shots. However,he's still entirely to blame for what happened,IMO.

What if you get shot waiting for your PS3 ?>>>>>

Already reported this morning that two teenagers tried robbing a line of waiters on PS3's. One fellow refused to give them his money, so they shot him. Condition of the shootee unknown .

I know it takes manpower but sometimes I wonder why they just don't station a couple cops to guard the guy and keep him from doing anything until he collapses from exhaustion? Maybe I'm missing something that makes that unreasonable.
---
The longer they wait the more likely something is going to go wrong to make the situation worse.

Like a door opens and a four year old walks out.

You don't know what it will be until it happens and you think, "Oh s***, it just got worse."

Great idea blinding him like that. I know how bad it was from those old flash bulbs on cameras and the spots they'd leave before my eyes. Plus it would give the cops a really, really good view of what's going on.

Police dogs are treated as officers. They have an officer down.

One last thing...if you listen at the 1:23 mark of the video, you hear the perp saying "if the dog bites me,I'm gonna be shootin' y'all"

He had a gun. He displayed it. He threatened to use it. He was told to drop it. He did not.

It takes less than a second to move a gun to firing position.

If you don't see a threat no one can help you.

Good thought with the million candle power light.

Regarding him being a threat, failure to follow police instructions in this situation was an implied threat. I think the police were justified at any time during this 3 minutes of taking him out. Single .308 shot center body mass would have been fine though.
