John Edwards buys Playstation 3 from Wal-Mart … after bashing it posted at 6:41 pm on November 16, 2006 by Ian Send to a Friend | regular view

Former Senator and failed candidate for Vice-President John Edwards obtained the new video game system Playstation 3 from his local Wal-Mart today:

Just like the millions of Americans who turn to their neighborhood Wal-Mart for their holiday shopping needs, Wal-Mart announced today that former Sen. John Edwards is seeking to be one of the first to get a Sony PlayStation 3, one of the most coveted holiday gift items this Christmas season.

Last summer Edwards spoke at a Wake Up Wal-Mart bashing the retail giant:

“We want every single consumer in America, every person in America, to know that if they walk into a Wal-Mart, that first of all their tax dollars are subsidizing Wal-Mart employees. Their tax dollars are helping provide health care for Wal-Mart employees, because Wal-Mart’s not doing it. Their tax dollars are going to provide housing and food stamps for Wal-Mart employees,” Mr. Edwards told a crowd of 400 at Hill House. “What is wrong with this picture?”

Edwards’ knocking of Wal-Mart isn’t just a one-time thing, but a hobby for him. In fact, just yesterday he was at another Wake Up Wal-Mart event, again bashing the company.

Townhall’s Mary Katharine Ham has a picture of Edwards at an August Wake Up Wal-Mart event.

I'm just an old country boy so I know B.S. when I smell it and this story reeks of it.

John Edwards wants us to believe Walmart uses slave labor.

Thanks for the ping.

Magnificent spoof!

Here's Yahoo's take: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/061116/dath035.html?.v=68

All this revolves around the PR Newswire story. I suspect somebody spoofed PR Newswire (not hard to do as they are the premier pay-for media whoring business), PR Newswire distributed the story and now it's all over the place.

I'll not be surprised to find out the spoof was by the UCFW.

I don't know about that, because it doesn't really do any harm to WalMart, which is their goal.

Not surprised.
Hmmm, I wonder, I wonder if we've not all been deceived here, that if we could follow the real money trail behind the anti-Walmart crusade, maybe,, maybe these democrats and liberals are really just a cover, just a front, , that, if the real truth were revealed, maybe, it would all lead back to some secret, clandestine operation formed from deep within the very bowels, the very heart, of K-mart.

Here you go....Edwards denies

Edwards denies Wal-Mart's claim that he asked for Playstation 3 By MARCUS KABEL AP Business Writer

...... Through a spokeswoman, Edwards said no such request was made.

"Elizabeth and I don't shop at Wal-Mart. We haven't been in a Wal-Mart in years. We instructed no one to contact Wal-Mart on our behalf," Edwards said in an e-mail sent by spokeswoman Kim Rubey.

Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar wouldn't name the person who purportedly called on Edwards' behalf. A company statement accused Edwards of not wanting to wait his turn.

From the same article.....

After Wal-Mart this summer hired Edelman executive Leslie Dach as its public relations director and put him on the company's executive team, analysts said the retailer would likely become more aggressive toward its critics.

This just may be a real press release.....

I still can't see WalMart issuing such a press release without proof it actually was someone from Edward's office that called. Also there is a 2004 date on the PRN page with the press release.

I saw3 that line in the article, but the line in the article about a WM spokeman declining to identify the caller just doen't sit right with me.

If WM did actually issue this release without proof, they have made a HUGE PR mistake and will have a huge mess on their hands.

Bizarre, hilarious, brilliant regardless if its a hoax or true.

Do a google search on "BENTONVILLE, AR UNITED STATES 10/04/2004" you will find many Wal-mart press releases for different topics with that line in it. Not sure why, but that date does not seem to discount the press release.

It just seems to be a standard part of the press release logo:
