John Edwards buys Playstation 3 from Wal-Mart after bashing it posted at 6:41 pm on November 16, 2006 by Ian Send to a Friend | regular view
Former Senator and failed candidate for Vice-President John Edwards obtained the new video game system Playstation 3 from his local Wal-Mart today:
Just like the millions of Americans who turn to their neighborhood Wal-Mart for their holiday shopping needs, Wal-Mart announced today that former Sen. John Edwards is seeking to be one of the first to get a Sony PlayStation 3, one of the most coveted holiday gift items this Christmas season.
Last summer Edwards spoke at a Wake Up Wal-Mart bashing the retail giant:
We want every single consumer in America, every person in America, to know that if they walk into a Wal-Mart, that first of all their tax dollars are subsidizing Wal-Mart employees. Their tax dollars are helping provide health care for Wal-Mart employees, because Wal-Marts not doing it. Their tax dollars are going to provide housing and food stamps for Wal-Mart employees, Mr. Edwards told a crowd of 400 at Hill House. What is wrong with this picture?
Edwards knocking of Wal-Mart isnt just a one-time thing, but a hobby for him. In fact, just yesterday he was at another Wake Up Wal-Mart event, again bashing the company.
Townhalls Mary Katharine Ham has a picture of Edwards at an August Wake Up Wal-Mart event.

My son informed us that Playstation was going to go on sale and the people had been camped out for days waiting for a shot at buying one - Tom
I wonder if Edwards really goes to stores to buy things like that. He has mega bucks and is really well known. Guys like that usually get assistants to pick things up or get their orders delivered.
I seriously doubt WalMart issued the below press release which is the source on the blogs for this story......
Even Presidential Candidates Agree: Wal-Mart is the Best Place to Shop for Hot Electronics Items this Christmas Season BENTONVILLE, Ark., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Just like the millions of Americans who turn to their neighborhood Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) for their holiday shopping needs, Wal-Mart announced today that former Sen. John Edwards is seeking to be one of the first to get a Sony PlayStation3, one of the most coveted holiday gift items this Christmas season. Yesterday, a staff person for former Sen. Edwards contacted a Wal-Mart electronics manager in Raleigh, North Carolina to obtain a Sony PlayStation3 on behalf of the Senator's family. Later that night, Sen. Edwards reportedly re-told a homespun story to participants of a United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union-sponsored call about how his son had chided a fellow student for purchasing shoes at Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart welcomes Sen. Edwards to visit his local Wal-Mart store and explore the extensive line of home electronics as well as the Metro7 line shoes for men and boys.
The Company noted the PlayStation3 is an extremely popular item this Christmas season, and while the rest of America's working families are waiting patiently in line, Senator Edwards wants to cut to the front. While, we cannot guarantee that Sen. Edwards will be among one of the first to obtain a PlayStation3, we are certain Sen. Edwards will be able to find great gifts for everyone on his Christmas list - many at Wal-Mart's "roll-back prices."

So did he cut in line liker Kerry did at the Reagan funeral or did he camp out all night like others are doing?
I can't believe they would say somethign like that........
Ooooh, based on the headline I thought he bought the Playstation after he bashed IT - the Playstation. I figured he tripped over it in the store or something. :)
Too bad no one had a camera there.
Yeah, something is fishy with this press release.
Did he stand in line like everybody else? (Stupid question, but it had to be asked)
Heard an interview with Peter Schweizer today on my local afternoon Talk Radio with ConservaBabe Vicki McKenna. He was terrific, and his book is in my library queue. :)
No sh...
If I thought my federal taxes were going to at least stay the same as opposed to being increased over the next couple of years, I may consider this purchase.
As it stands now, I'll have to worry about saving that money for a lowly muffler on my vehicle to get back and forth to work without getting a ticket.
Very fishy. Besides this not being like WalMart, I don't think even the Silk-Pony would be so arrogant or sTUPID.
Well, at least we get to eat cake!!!!
His Wal-Mart must be in one of the two Americas; the one that is good, not the bad one.
For another thing, it's not on Walmart's website with their other press releases, and the release doesn't actually say that Edwards came down and got one. It says that someone from his staff called. In a way, it's a brilliant scam to get ahead of the line--call Walmart and tell them that John Edwards needs one right away and that you'll be over to pick it up.
