Ventura, Calif. -- A trucking company owner and two employees could be in deep guacamole.
Ventura County authorities charged them with grand theft and criminal conspiracy after a three-week investigation into the theft of more than $700,000 worth of avocados this past growing season.
The trucking company was hired to take loads of avocados from growers to market but the three men skimmed off portions of loads at a truck yard, the sheriff's and district attorney's offices alleged in a joint statement Tuesday.
The investigation began with a tip to Index Fresh, one of two companies that hired the trucking company.

They need lots and lots of guacamole, now that San Francisco is no longer arresting people for marijuana crimes.
No kidding. Here in Florida, we're giving them away. It's the end of the season, and FL avocados are almost the size of a football. Driving around in residential areas, there are tables, baskets and trash cans full of them with signs "Free Avocados." They take a full week to ripen after picking or falling from the tree. I just brought in the last three from my tree this afternoon. They will make a whole lot of guacamole.
My favorite sandwich is avocado, cream cheese, sliced tomato and sprouts on whole grain bread. YUM!!
I did the same thing with Bing cherries years ago in San Jose.
Football size? The radio show doctor, Dr Dean Edell was just saying that he eats an avocado a day, sometimes two. He is in the Sacramento area, which probably doesn't have football-size avocados.
Wow! Are they as flavorful and delicious as the regular size ones? I'm not expert, all I know about avocados I learned from my wife.
I am assuming the RICO "laws" apply in this case, and that the trucks will be seized.
The ones in the photo above with the can of tuna fell from the tree during one of the September storms the other year. Those were hurricane rations.

That sounds worse than zucchini season here.
As far as stealing avacados... well, I've tried them and can't for the life of me figure out why someone would want one bad enough to steal it.
