Conservation officers who entered the home of a man who sought treatment for a poisonous snake bite found 15 venomous vipers, including cobras and rattlesnakes, inside.

We had a wholesaler get bit by a black mamba years ago when I had just moved into Fairfax. He died even though they flew in antivenom to him. There's a lot more of this stuff going on than people realize. The wholesalers and the practitioners try to keep it secret.

Most of these snakes can live outside in CA and FL - and do... It's only a question of time before a few of them meet up and start breeding.

At least in Indiana they die in the winter. What's wrong with congress for not doing something about this issue before it's too late.

From my reading of the bible they only ones that would be safe from the bites were the Apostles. Namely Paul....

 

NIV Mark 16:15-18

NIV Acts 28:1-6
 1.  Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta.
 2.  The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold.
 3.  Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand.
 4.  When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, "This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live."
 5.  But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.
 6.  The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead, but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.

 

From a simple reading of the Book, many other than the Apostles would be safe.

I don't want to sound mean, but I'm not sure you could be further off the mark here.

First, the apostles are not the subject throughout the paragraph. Sure, He's talking to them the whole time, but he is discussing what the status of "whoever believes." If I said, "I told smug that whoever posts on this thread will get a dollar," does that mean only you can claim the dollar, because I was talking to you, or does it mean I was discussing with you the people who post on this thread?

Actually, there are several other reasons within the paragraph that He cannot be referring to the apostles only, and I'll be glad to detail them, but let's move on.

Then there's this:

Well, here's what accompany means:

2. to be or exist in association or company with: Thunder accompanies lightning.

3. to put in company with; cause to be or go along; associate (usually fol. by with): He accompanied his speech with gestures.

4. Music. to play or sing an accompaniment to or for.

–verb (used without object)
5. to provide the musical accompaniment.

Do you see anything in there that is the equivalent of witnessing something?

Here's the accompany entry from the thesaurus:

Still, nothing that mean witnessed by. One also wonders...if Timothy or Luke were bitten by a snake while preaching the Gospel, would they have dropped dead? They weren't Apostles, but were doing the same work. Why would God want to protect just 13 guys? What spiritual ratinale would there be for only those studying under Jesus directly being empowered to drive out demons and heal the sick?

I'll look up which Greek word is used in the verse, but if it's a word for "witnessed by" I will be very, very surprised, because it would change the rest of the paragraph to nonsense.

Smug- I was thinking more about the old testament Jews who had to look toward the Staff of Moses or Aaron (can't remember which one now) & they would be saved if bit by poisnon. The Mark 16:15-17 verses talk about a specific time where it was necessary for miracles to happen in order to confirm the gospels- it was a short period of time for the verification of God's word & that time has passed- 'Faith healers today do NOT do the miracles that the Apostles did- I'm talking about TRUE miracles- not this "Halleluai my aching back has been 'cured'" nonsense. We're talking about the apostles raising the dead, healing incurable diseases, restoring body parts etc- TRUE miracles- these things are NOT being done today because we are in the church age and not the early miracle confirmation age- God has given us all the proofs necessary for salvation now. These snake handlers are are NOT following God's word and are misleading people and again- putting an unnecessary burden of a 'works based salvation' on them- IE: THEY must prove their faith by handling snakes- this is flato ut wrong and deceitful. God saves, we don't 'prove' anything- espceially to other people. Our salvation is all God's work and not ours.
