TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden is stepping down.
He resigned Tuesday, just three days after the Seminoles were shut out for the first time in 233 games.
Athletic director David Hart Jr. says the resignation will be effective at the end of this season.
Bowden, the youngest son of Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden, replaced now-Georgia head coach Mark Richt as the Seminoles' offensive coordinator in 2001.
Florida State has its homecoming game Saturday against Western Michigan followed by the season finale on Nov. 25 against intrastate rival Florida.
Bobby Bowden has stood by his son's performance as offensive coordinator despite a notable decline in scoring and yardage gained in the past half-dozen seasons.
The school had skirted a nepotism policy by having the younger Bowden report to another coach on the staff other than his father.

FYI
I would rather seen him promoted to head coach, but then I am not a fan of FSU.
Doesn't look like he'll be following in the family head coaching tradition anytime soon.
In the Orlando area this is really big time stuff --you can't walk ten feet in the courthouse or grocery store without hearing this and 'gator football discussed.
There was an obsure rumor last year that he was going to be offered a head coach job at some school like Liberty (if they even have a football team). That would probably be what he could handle.
Bobby's next if they don't improve.
Not this year....
If a coordinator goes, that generally indicates that the Head Coach is safe.
Not too surprising.
A-MEN!
Too bad UGa won against AU last weekend...then Mark would've been available for the OC position (to become head coach once BB does finally quit)...
I can dream, can't I?
Some think he'll get to leave on his own terms.
My heart bleeds for Free Shoes University. :)
"About freaking time."
It'd be about freaking time if it were LAST season. Unfortunately, he's leaving at the END of this season. That's at least one season too many. I'd rather see the waterboy doing the offensive playcalling.
I guess being shut out at home by Wake Forest was a little too much...
This move won't help our offensive line. At least Joe Pa didn't gain on Bobby last week.
As long as you recognize that it's just a dream.
We need to get rid of our own nepotism problem up here if we want to be a perennial power again. Jay Paterno was the offensive coordinator, and he couldn't handle that job. Now he's moved to QB Coach, and it seems that our highly recruited QB has actually regressed as the year's gone by...
The word on SportsLine is Fedora (OkSt's OC) to replace him...the same guy from UF's spread offense. NOW we're talking!
