A Debtor to Mercy Alone {Lyrics: Augustus Toplady, 1771. Composer: Joseph Parry, 1870.}
A debtor to mercy alone,
Of covenant mercy I sing;
My person and offring to bring.
The terrors of law and of God
With me can have nothing to do;
My Saviors obedience and blood
Hide all my transgressions from view.
The work which His goodness began,
The arm of His strength will complete;
His promise is Yea and Amen,
And never was forfeited yet.
Things future, nor things that are now,
Nor all things below or above,
Can make Him His purpose forgo,
Or sever my soul from His love.
My name from the palms of His hands
Eternity will not erase;
Impressed on His heart it remains,
In marks of indelible grace.
Yes, I to the end shall endure,
As sure as the earnest is givn;
More happy, but not more secure,
the glorified spirits in Heavn.
Thank You, Merciful Master, for Saving us through Your Great Love!
We Love you, and Sing Forth Your Sweetest Praise.
May Your Name be Glorified throughout the Eternities to Come.
We Pray for Thy Soon-Appearing, our Mighty King of Grace.
We Worship You and Adore you, in our Jesus' Holy Name, amen.
May God's Blessings be with you all. (Titus3:15)
Dear KM
What a wonderful hymn to remind us that the LORD is the Author and Perfecter of our faith; that not of ourselves, it is a gift of God.
What good doctrine and encouragement of the SURE WORK He is doing and will finish.
The “severity” of the music correctly echoes the life and death matter of eternal things.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Thank you LORD, for calling us to your great Salvation.
Be exalted.
