The Prayer Room: Praying for America, FR, and all who need it
Various | 11/8/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 11/09/2006 6:49:58 PM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1
>

At this time, when feelings run high, the world seems crazy, and anger seems to be the one thing the peoples of the world have in common, I invite you, my fellow FReepers, to join me in prayers and meditation for guidance, God's help and for our fellow man, for America, our troops,  and all our own needs.

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

William Bradbury

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Psalm 46: 1-3

Father, Thank you for calling us and giving us Life Eternal.
We are your people and the sheep of your pasture. We turn our hearts toward you again.....

Isa 60:21 Your people shall all be righteous; they shall possess the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I might be glorified.

Exo 19:5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine;
Exo 19:6 and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel."

1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1Pe 2:10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

We are grateful for your unmerited Grace and Love.
I pray that you will rejoice in your people.

The movers are here packing. I'm taking my own puter and routers with me, but I might run out of a place to pute at!

But you will be in my prayers; keep me in yours!

John 8:9-11

The fright had not yet drained from her eyes as they made their retreat.
Her dark kohl smudged eyes, looking worn and tired and resigned,
had not noticed their leaving,.
Instead, she huddled there, her heartbeat pounding in her ears
like a doe at the end of a hunt, wounded,
waiting for the last sharp blow that would carry her away into the darkness.

Yet, and yet.
How the chaos of her day faded, breath by breath.
A moment too many had passed, something had changed.

Finally, she shifted, daring to move, clutching her torn dress tightly.
Unbelieving at first, she noticed the rocks,
the rocks meant for her, the tools of her death scattered upon the sand.
Hope unsought, unexpected caught at her throat.
.
Glancing up, she saw him,
looking at her with a kindness that held no glimmer of lust
or lewdness or distaste or abuse,
a hand that helped her to her feet,
and the soft voice that offered new life.

O Lord, all of us are as guilty as she, deserving to be caught in the act,
pulled by rough, unforgiving hands to the place of our execution,
for we are all sinners, deserving to be displayed for what we are,
deserving to feel the stone's bite.

Yet and yet, O Lord,
you are our help when the darkness threatens,
our sure protector who lifts us out of the sands of death
O Lord, no matter how deep our stained souls,
if we are willing to look up into your loving eyes,
and like she did, find newness of life in your loving hands.

Lam 3:24 "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him."

It is unto You, O Lord, that we return, praising You above the roar of dissent and strife that comes crashing around our ears in relentless ways. There is doom and despair on all sides, yet Your Word teaches that this is not our portion. YOU are our portion, Merciful Father ... it is in You that we live and move and have our being. If this were not so, O God, we would be as madmen ... fearful at every turn, easily swayed by the appeals of men.

Relentless is the media in portraying how impotent we are ... how ignorant we are ... how unthinking and uncaring we are, and how we need the wisdom of men to guide us. Father, is this not the sin of satan, who would be like unto You? Forgive us for relying upon the goodness of man, when there is none righteous, no not one. Forgive us for lack of persistent, insistent prayer that You would raise up men after Your own heart to be the leaders among us. Prepare our hearts in this time of chastening, that we might contritely call upon You in this time of trouble. Send Your Spirit to sweep across this land, that there would be a great awakening of our need for You, and You alone. Let not the enemy be victorious in abandoning a people whom You have set free ... all of hell has seemingly been loosed upon the earth to stamp out the tiny flame of liberty and freedom that has been set in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet ever is our hope in You ... thank You, Merciful Father, that though man plans, You decide.

Rise up, O men of God!
Have done with lesser things.
Give heart and mind and soul and strength
To serve the King of kings.

Rise up, O men of God!
The kingdom tarries long.
Bring in the day of brotherhood
And end the night of wrong.

Rise up, O men of God!
The church for you doth wait,
Her strength unequal to her task;
Rise up and make her great!

Lift high the cross of Christ!
Tread where His feet have trod.
As brothers of the Son of Man,
Rise up, O men of God! ~ William P. Merrill

And may it be, Merciful Father, that You will continue to minister to those in authority over us who look to You for wisdom and guidance, who name You as Savior and Lord. Keep them focused on what is right, and not what is expedient or popular, no matter the verbal assaults. Stir the American people to understand what is happening around them and to them, for evil is about to overtake. Hold back the full fury of the enemy's hatred, O Lord, lest we perish. May a heavenly hedge of protection surround Your anointed ones, even as we pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.

May it be thus, O Lord, may it be thus, in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen ...

Psa 65:2 O you who hears prayer, to you shall all flesh come.
Psa 65:3 When iniquities prevail against me, you atone for our transgressions.
Psa 65:4 Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!
Psa 65:5 By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas;
Psa 65:6 the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might;
Psa 65:7 who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples,
Psa 65:8 so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs. You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

Oh Lord, this day has been made Holy by you.
I give you praise for your help, seen and unseen.
I thank you for the rest that we will receive.
I pray regarding the coming weather change, that you would work everything together for our good.
Kindle our hearts by your Holy Spirit and help us to love you with our whole heart.
Let the Redeemed of the Lord, say so!

Psa 42:8 By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.

God, that madest earth and Heaven, darkness and light;
Who the day for toil hast given, for rest the night;
May Thine angel guards defend us,
Slumber sweet Thy mercy send us;
Holy dreams and hopes attend us, all through the night.

And when morn again shall call us, to run life’s way,
May we still, whatever befall us, Thy will obey.
From the power of evil hide us,
In the narrow pathway guide us,
Nor Thy smile be ever denied us all through the day.

Guard us waking, guard us sleeping, and when we die,
May we in Thy mighty keeping all peaceful lie;
When the last dread call shall wake us,
Do not Thou, our God, forsake us,
But to reign in glory take us with Thee on high.

Meditation on Isaiah 52:7-10

How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news,
publishing the glad tidings of peace,
announcing the word of salvation,
who says to Zion,
Your God reigns!

Gospel,
Godspell,
God's story,
Love's story,
how the rejected Lover
reclaimed his bride,
how the willful child
found a loving Father
in spite of his actions
how the contrite found hope,
how the sinful, redemption,
the brokenhearted, healing.

See how the guardians
in their watchtowers
call out the news -
joy unbounded
in the songs that angels sang
to the outcasts with their flocks,
to the poorest of the poor,
how God himself
came to rescue them,
be one with them,
sleeping in a stable,
refusing the palace.

The Lord,
the Lover,
the King,
baring his arms in the glory of his might,
the amazement of his birth,
the wonder of his death,
the splendor of his ressurection,
and to all the ends of the earth,
he proclaims his salvation

O sing forth,
this story of Love,
how the Lover stretched out his arms,
embracing the world,
cruciform,
down to the darkness of death,
shattering its gates
to bring forth
unutterable joy.

Morning Prayer Bump!

So I will allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak to her heart....and she will respond there as in the days of her youth. - Hosea 2:16,17

O Lord,
again and again it seems
you come calling us -
we,
who are so enamoured
of our own brilliance,
the flash of things,
the pleasures of our own toys,
the promise of our own power,
who deserve nothing
from you,
how often we
forget you,
run after the bright toys
that lead to our sorrow,
our loss,
our emptiness,
our death.

Lost in the desert,
we so often taste the dust
of our own shattered dreams,
the death of our own schemes,
the ashes of our own weakness.

And yet,
there, if we look,
we can see you,
calling our name.

There, if we listen,
we can hear the sweetness of your voice
saying, "Come, beloved,
let me heal your hurts,
let me soothe your pains,
let me love you."

There, in the desert,
you offer us shelter,
shade against the burning,
protection from the stinging sands,
forgiveness,
love,
acceptance.

"Return to me,
let me love you,
let me show you
peace,
joy,
truth," you whisper.

Lord,
without your call,
we would be truly lost indeed.
May each of us,
hearing your voice,
take your hand
and find shelter in your arms,
this day,
and always.

Amen.

Psa 119:10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
Psa 119:11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psa 119:12 Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes!
Psa 119:13 With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth.
Psa 119:14 In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.
Psa 119:15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
Psa 119:16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
Psa 119:17 ....Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
Psa 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.

Father in heaven, we commit our way to you oh Lord, and ask help for the orphan and the widow in need, for those who are oppressed today and in trouble.
Destroy the works of the devil and bring evil plans to nothing.
Interrupt the enemy of our souls, Lord, and send your Holy Angels to fight for us and those in need.
I ask that you would cause a hunger for truth today, and a thirst for righteousness.
Let your light shine in us, so that men would think of you, and come to you in repentance.
I thank you that you always do your will, and no one can prevent it.
I ask that you would protect those traveling and give good weather for work.
You are Lord. I want to thank you for Christian radio, and all those that make it possible for our edification.
You are good, and your Mercy endures forever.
I ask these things in the Name above all Names.
