The Prayer Room: Praying for America, FR, and all who need it
Various | 11/8/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 11/09/2006 6:49:58 PM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1
>

At this time, when feelings run high, the world seems crazy, and anger seems to be the one thing the peoples of the world have in common, I invite you, my fellow FReepers, to join me in prayers and meditation for guidance, God's help and for our fellow man, for America, our troops,  and all our own needs.

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

William Bradbury

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Psalm 46: 1-3

Daily Light on the Daily Path
July 30

Morning

Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Get wisdom; get insight.—The wisdom from above.—“The deep says, ‘It is not in me,’ and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’”—We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.—God . . . made us alive together with Christ . . . and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

People who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland.—Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility.

Col. 3:1; Prov. 4:5; Jas. 3:17; Job 28:14; Rom. 6:4, 5; Heb. 12:1; Eph. 2:4-6; Heb. 11:14; Zeph. 2:3

LORD, it is not like us to seek the Good things of Christ.
Let us walk by the Spirit, and we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

Rom 7:22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,
Rom 7:23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
Rom 7:24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Rom 7:25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Rom 8:11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

By faith in Christ I walk with God,
With Heav’n, my journey’s end, in view;
Supported by His staff and rod,
My road is safe and pleasant too.

I travel through a desert wide
Where many round me blindly stray;
But He vouchsafes to be my Guide,
And will not let me miss my way.

Though snares and dangers throng my path,
And earth and hell my course withstand;
I triumph over all by faith,
Guarded by His almighty hand.

The wilderness affords no food,
But God for my support prepares;
Provides me every needful good,
And frees my soul from wants and cares.

With Him sweet converse I maintain,
Great as He is I dare be free;
I tell Him all my grief and pain,
And He reveals His love to me.

Some cordial from His Word He brings,
Whene’er my feeble spirit faints;
At once my soul revives and sings,
And yields no more to sad complaints.

I pity all that worldlings talk
Of pleasures that will quickly end;
Be this my choice, O Lord, to walk
With Thee, my Guide, my Guard, my Friend.
—John Newton, 1779

2Co 2:14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.
2Co 2:15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,
2Co 2:16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?
2Co 2:17 For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

So spoke the Apostle Paul.
LORD, make our lives a fragrance to you of Christ and it will be all we want.
Help us to be ready with your Word of Truth for there is need for truth in this world as well as within us.
Help us to be strong in you and the power of your might.
In the name of Jesus, I ask these great things.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/i/s/hisgisfm.htm

Gladly the will of my Lord I obey;
He is my Keeper from day unto day;
He is my Guide, and He knoweth the way,
His grace is sufficient for me.

Refrain

His grace is sufficient for me,
His grace is sufficient for me;
Then why should I fear, with a Savior so dear?
His grace is sufficient for me.

Not over things of the world will I grieve;
All that He sends I will gladly receive,
Satisfied just to look up and believe,
His grace is sufficient for me.

Refrain

Tho’ I may see but one step at a time,
As up the pathway to glory I climb,
Yet I believe in the promise divine,
His grace is sufficient for me.

Refrain

Living, I’ll serve Him wherever I go,
E’en tho’ it be where the dark waters flow;
Dying, I’ll praise Him, for well I do know,
His grace is sufficient for me.

Refrain

When I shall stand face to face with my King,
Still to the word of His promise I’ll cling,
And with the ransomed forever I’ll sing—
His grace is sufficient for me.

This is my prayer today... that my will be in tune with GOD’s WILL...
We must, as His people and as a nation come back to the Lord. We must stop calling sin “ mistakes” and owning our own sins, individual and corporately as a nation. Thy Will , not mine Lord. Thy Will , not mine.

MIGHTY WARRIOR

Mighty Warrior, dressed for battle

Holy Lord of all is He

Commander in chief, bring us to attention

Lead us into battle to crush the enemy

Satan has no authority in this place

he has no authority here

For this habitation

Was fashioned for the Lord's presence

No authority here

Mighty Warrior, dressed for battle

Holy Lord of all is He

Commander in chief, bring us to attention

Lead us into battle to crush the enemy

Yes! My Lord and King! You are a Mighty Warrior Against Satan and Sin. We Adore You for the Great Victory You have Wrought! Help us, our Lord, to Fight Daily Against our Soul's Foes. You are our Strength and our Power, Holy Lord of Hosts. Help us to Love what You Love, and to Hate what You Hate. Thank You, Mighty God, for 'the Mortification of our Body's Evil Deeds.' (Rom.8:13) May You be Praised Forevermore for Your Grace!

We Love You, Dear Father our King, and Exalt You in Jesus' Name, amen.

There is therefore now No Condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. (Rom.8:1)

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 He was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Joh 1:4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Joh 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Father, let us walk in the Light of Jesus and have fellowship with one another.
Fight for us and expose works of darkness.
Shine your examining light into our hearts to reprove the sin that so easily hides there.
Lead us in the Way Everlasting with the Light of the World as our beacon.

Need of Jesus

Lord Jesus,
I am Blind, be thou my light,
ignorant, be thou my wisdom,
self-willed, be thou my mind.
Open my ear to grasp quickly thy Spirit’s voice.
and delightfully run after his beckoning hand..........
—From The Valley of Vision

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/l/w/lworldij.htm

The whole world was lost
In the darkness of sin,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday,
His glory shone in.
The Light of the world is Jesus!

Refrain

Come to the light, ’tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the light has dawned upon me.
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!

No darkness have we
Who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
We walk in the light
When we follow our Guide!
The Light of the world is Jesus!

Refrain

Ye dwellers in darkness
With sin blinded eyes,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Go, wash, at His bidding,
And light will arise.
The Light of the world is Jesus!

Refrain

No need of the sunlight
In Heaven we’re told;
The Light of the world is Jesus!
The Lamb is the Light
In the city of gold,
The Light of the world is Jesus!

Beautiful Offering, King's Servant, and my Spirit is Refreshed and Encouraged by the Wonderful Devotional you Prepared. May our Gracious Lord Bless you as you Honor Him with these Offerings of Love.

At the Cross {Lyrics: Isaac Watts, 1707. Composer: Ralph Hudson.}

Alas! and did my Savior bleed
And did my Sovereign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
For such a worm as I?

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

Was it for crimes that I had done
He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

But drops of grief can ne’er repay
The debt of love I owe:
Here, Lord, I give my self away
’Tis all that I can do.

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

For the Preaching of the Cross is to them that are Perishing Foolishness;
But to us which are Being Saved it is the Power of God. (1Cor.1:18)

Morning

The Lamb that was slain.

“Your lamb shall be without blemish . . . and . . . the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. . . . And when I see the blood, I will pass over you.—The sprinkled blood.—Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.—“Delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God.”—Because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses.—Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.

Follow the Lamb!
by Horatius Bonar

“My sheep hear my voice, and they follow me.” John 10:27

Christian, your whole life is to be one continuous following of the Lord.

You began with turning your back upon the world, and ‘looking to Jesus’; keep ever thus. Looking to Him brought rest to you at first, and healed your soul; so, looking to Him daily will maintain your rest and perfect your spiritual health.

Christian, should your eye ever be withdrawn from the cross, you will be sure to go backwards, to grow cold, and to forget that you were purged from your old sins (2 Peter 1:9). That cross is life, health, holiness, consolation, strength, joy; let nothing come between it and you.

Lead On, O King Eternal {SHURTLEFF, ERNEST W.}

Lead on, O King E-ternal,

The day of march has come

Lead on, O King E-ternal,

Till sin's fierce wars shall cease,

Lead on, O King E-ternal,

We follow not with fears

Hence-forth in fields of conquest

Thy tents shall be our home

And holi-ness shall whisper

The Sweet a - men of peace.

For gladness breaks like morning

Wher-e'er thy face ap-pears.

Through days of prepa-ration

Your grace has made us strong

For not with swords' loud clashing,

Nor roll of stirring drums

Thy cross is lifted over us,

We journey in its light;

And now, O King e - ter-nal,

We lift our battle song.

With deeds of love and mer-cy

The heavenly kingdom comes

The crown a-waits the con-quest:

Lead on, O God of might!

Now unto the King Eternal, Immortal, Invisible, the Only Wise God,
Be Honour and Glory, Forever and Ever, amen. {1Tim.1:17}

Daily Light on the Daily Path
August 3

His mercy is for those who fear him.

Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! In the cover of your presence you hide them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.

If you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile.—The Lord is near to all who call on him . . . in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.

“Because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before the Lord, . . . and you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the Lord.”—“But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.”—The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Luke 1:50; Ps. 31:19, 20; 1 Pet. 1:17; Ps. 145:18, 19; 2 Kings 22:19; Isa. 66:2; Ps. 34:18

REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS, AND AGAIN, I SAY REJOICE!!

LET US SING TO THE LORD.

Chorus of Fire

O! golden Hereafter, thine every bright rafter
Will shake in the thunder of sanctified song;
And every swift angel proclaim an evangel,
To summon God’s saints to the glorified throng.

Refrain

O! chorus of fire,
That will burst from God’s choir,
When the loud hallelujahs leap up from the soul,
Till the flowers on the hills,
And the waves in the rills,
Shall tremble with joy in the music’s deep roll.

O! host without number, awaked from death’s slumber,
Who walk in white robes on the emerald shore;
The glory is o’er you, the throne is before you,
And weeping will come to your spirits no more.

Refrain

O! mansions eternal, in fields ever vernal,
Awaiting your tenantry ransomed from sin,
We’ll stand on your pavement, no more in enslavement,
With home-songs to Jesus Who welcomes us in.

Refrain

O! Jesus, our Master, command to beat faster
These weary life pulses that bring us to Thee,
Till, past the dark portal, we stand up immortal,
And sweep with hosannas the jasper lit sea.

What a Beautiful Hymn, bp! Thank you for this Blessing.

Tell me the Old, Old Story {Lyrics: Katherine Hankey, 1866. Composer: Howard Doane, 1870.}

Tell me the old, old story of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.
Tell me the story simply, as to a little child,
For I am weak and weary, and helpless and defiled.

Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.

Tell me the story slowly, that I may take it in,
That wonderful redemption, God’s remedy for sin.
Tell me the story often, for I forget so soon;
The early dew of morning has passed away at noon.

Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.

Tell me the same old story when you have cause to fear
That this world’s empty glory is costing me too dear.
Yes, and when that world’s glory is dawning on my soul,
Tell me the old, old story: “Christ Jesus makes thee whole.”

Tell me the old, old story, tell me the old, old story,
Tell me the old, old story, of Jesus and His love.

The Love of Christ...Passeth Knowledge. (Eph.3:19)

Psa 42:1 To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah. As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
Psa 42:2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Psa 42:3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
Psa 42:4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.
Psa 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation
Psa 42:6 and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.
Psa 42:7 Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.
Psa 42:8 By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
Psa 42:9 I say to God, my rock: “Why have you forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
Psa 42:10 As with a deadly wound in my bones, my adversaries taunt me, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?”
Psa 42:11 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.

God of my life, to Thee I call;
Afflicted, at Thy feet I fall;
When the great water floods prevail
Leave not my trembling heart to fail!

Friend of the friendless and the saint,
Where should I lodge my deep complaint?
Where but with Thee, whose open door
Invites the helpless and the poor!

Did ever mourner plead with Thee,
And Thou refuse that mourner’s plea?
Does not the Word still fixed remain
That none shall seek Thy face in vain?

That were a grief I could not bear,
Didst Thou not hear and answer prayer;
But a prayer hearing, answering God
Supports me under every load.

Fair is the lot that’s cast for me!
I have an Advocate with Thee;
They whom the world caresses most,
Have no such privilege to boast.

Poor thou I am, despised, forgot,
Yet God, my God, forgets me not;
And he is safe, and must succeed,
For whom the Lord vouchsafes to plead.
—William Cowper, 1779

OH LORD of heaven and earth, there is none like you.

Joh 16:1 “I have said all these things to you to keep you from falling away.
Joh 16:2 They will put you out of the synagogues. Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.
Joh 16:3 And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me.

Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
Rom 8:36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Rom 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Rom 8:38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
Rom 8:39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

LORD I ASK YOU TO BE SO NEAR TO OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS ALL OVER THE WORLD WHO NAME THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS AS THEIR LORD, AND WHO SUFFER FOR THE GOSPEL’S SAKE.
HOLD THEM UP AND LET THEM SEE THE GLORY OF YOUR SON, THE GLORY HE HAD WITH YOU BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.
CONFIRM YOUR WORD AND TRUTH IN THEM.
I PRAISE YOU, THAT YOU WILL SAVE US TO THE UTTERMOST.

Isa 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
Isa 12:3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.
Isa 12:4 And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
Isa 12:5 Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth.
