The Prayer Room: Praying for America, FR, and all who need it
Various | 11/8/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 11/09/2006 6:49:58 PM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

Psalm 127:1
>

At this time, when feelings run high, the world seems crazy, and anger seems to be the one thing the peoples of the world have in common, I invite you, my fellow FReepers, to join me in prayers and meditation for guidance, God's help and for our fellow man, for America, our troops,  and all our own needs.

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

William Bradbury

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

Psalm 46: 1-3

Soft as a murmur,
passed from ear to ear
from those who had known him,
had followed him
had cared.

The tomb was empty.

Some no doubt,
went to see the place,
a garden tomb,
its stone rolled away,
not in place.

The tomb was empty.

Guards were questioned
who ran away,
facing death
but what could they say?

The tomb was empty.

A certain glow
was upon her face,
That woman who followed him
to the cross that day,
then to his burial place.

The tomb was empty.

Those who ran
and hid away,
something changed them
come that first Sunday.

The tomb was empty.

Like the faintest sound
gathering force
a whisper, a soft voice
growing louder
a thundering chorus:

The tomb is empty!

Resurrexit!
Alleluia!
Amen!

Joh 20:6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there,
Joh 20:7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.
Joh 20:8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;
Joh 20:9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
...............
Mat 16:21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
...............
Mar 9:31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
Mar 9:32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
............
Luk 18:32 For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon.
Luk 18:33 And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.”
Luk 18:34 But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.
............
Psa 16:9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.
Psa 16:10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.
...........
Isa 25:8 He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.
Isa 25:9 It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
.............
Act 2:23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
Act 2:24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.
Act 2:25 For David says concerning him, “’I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;
Act 2:26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.
Act 2:27 For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption.
Act 2:28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’
Act 2:29 “Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
Act 2:30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne,
Act 2:31 he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.
Act 2:32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.
Act 2:33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.
Act 2:34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “’The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand,
Act 2:35 until I make your enemies your footstool.’
Act 2:36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
...........
Act 13:29 And when they had carried out all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
Act 13:30 But God raised him from the dead,
Act 13:31 and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people.
Act 13:32 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers,
Act 13:33 this he has fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus, as also it is written in the second Psalm, “’You are my Son, today I have begotten you.’
Act 13:34 And as for the fact that he raised him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, he has spoken in this way, “’I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’
Act 13:35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, “’You will not let your Holy One see corruption.’
Act 13:36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption,
Act 13:37 but he whom God raised up did not see corruption.
Act 13:38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,
Act 13:39 and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

LORD, I SEE THAT THOUGH MEN FAIL, YET YOU ALWAYS CARRY OUT YOUR WORD AND DO YOUR WILL ACCORDING TO YOUR GOOD PLEASURE.
PRAISE TO YOU WHO SITS ON THE THRONE, AND UNTO THE LAMB.

The Lord is risen indeed!
And are the tidings true?
Yes, we beheld the Savior bleed,
And saw Him living, too.

The Lord is risen, indeed!
Then Justice asks no more;
Mercy and Truth are now agreed
Who stood opposed before.

The Lord is risen indeed!
Then is His work performed;
The captive surely now is freed,
And death, our foe, disarmed.

The Lord is risen indeed!
Then hell has lost his prey;
With Him is risen the ransomed seed
To reign in endless day.

The Lord is risen indeed!
He lives, to die no more;
He lives, the sinner’s cause to plead,
Whose curse and shame He bore.

The Lord is risen indeed!
Attending angels, hear!
Up to the courts of heaven with speed
The joyful tidings bear.

Then take your golden lyres,
And strike each cheerful chord;
Join, all ye bright celestial choirs,
To sing our risen Lord.

Psa 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psa 27:2 When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall.
Psa 27:3 Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.
Psa 27:4 One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.
Psa 27:5 For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock.
Psa 27:6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the LORD.
Psa 27:7 Hear, O LORD, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me!
Psa 27:8 You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, LORD, do I seek.”
Psa 27:9 Hide not your face from me. Turn not your servant away in anger, O you who have been my help. Cast me not off; forsake me not, O God of my salvation!
Psa 27:10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.
Psa 27:11 Teach me your way, O LORD, and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.
Psa 27:12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.
Psa 27:13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!
Psa 27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!

LORD, I pray that you would help us to ever be turning to you in prayer and seeking your face for the comfort and the joy of your presence.
Let it be to us food and drink.
Sustain us with your Salvation and Love, in the Name of Jesus.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/l/o/lorwecom.htm

Lord, we come before Thee now,
At Thy feet we humbly bow;
Oh, do not our suit disdain!
Shall we seek Thee, Lord, in vain?

Lord, on Thee our souls depend;
In compassion now descend,
Fill our hearts with Thy rich grace,
Tune our lips to sing Thy praise.

In Thine own appointed way
Now we seek Thee, here we stay.
Lord, we know not how to go
Till a blessing Thou bestow.

Send some message from Thy Word
That may joy and peace afford;
Let Thy Spirit now impart
Full salvation to each heart.

Comfort those who weep and mourn,
Let the time of joy return;
Those that are cast down lift up,
Make them strong in faith and hope.

Grant that all may seek and find
Thee a gracious God and kind.
Heal the sick, the captive free;
Let us all rejoice in Thee.

Come Into Our Lives

O Lord, Giver of life,
Come into our lives this day, today, always,
The lives of your children,
And renew the heart of each of us.

You are the way, the truth and the life.
Strengthen our feet to walk that way,
Soften our hearts to accept that truth.
Breathe into us the life that only you can give.

When the darkness seems so heavy,
And the dawn so far away,
Touch us, O Lord, with your mercy
And give us the grace to carry on.

Bring to mind the cost of your touch,
How much you were willing to do to reach our lives,
And let us know that you are not a small god
Who is happy for the crumbs of our remembering,
But the Master of all,
Creator who breathed life into the universe,
Who offers us the fire of his love
To transform us, moment by moment, step by step
Into the children you would have us to be.

Amen.

All Creatures of our God and King {Lyrics: Francis of Assisi, 1225. Composer: 17th Century German.}

All Creatures of our God and King

'All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam!

O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
Ye clouds that sail in Heaven along,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou rising moon, in praise rejoice,
Ye lights of evening, find a voice!
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
Make music for thy Lord to hear,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright,
That givest man both warmth and light

O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

And all ye men of tender heart,
Forgiving others, take your part,
O sing ye! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
Praise God and on Him cast your care!

O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!

O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!'

We Worship You, Your Majesty! Be Lifted on our Highest Praise! O Maker of All, Your Handiwork Points to Your Greatness and Your Love. How we Long to See you, to Bow Before Your Excellent Grace.

We Love You, Your Highness, and Thank You for Your Gift of New Life. In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be Glorified Forever, amen.

Hello, brothers and sisters! Sorry I haven’t been back much, especially for Easter greetings and praise. But... I’m here now.

Psalm 27 is “my” psalm, the one I carry with me, and I just said it at lunchtime. Phrase by phrase, there is much depth here. If I had to choose one verse, it would be 11: “Teach me Thy way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path because of my foes.” Or, wait, maybe 4....:)

Instead of reading on FR until bedtime last night, I turned off the computer and read the Bible. Psalm 25 is quite wonderful, too, as are all. Praise the Lord!

I encourage every one of you in the way of the Lord and may you be strengthened by the Light of Christ that came into the world upon his Resurrection. May His Light spread powerfully throughout the People.

Wisdom!

..and now you have helped me decide where to rest my weary eyes this nite.

Bless you also, and may God grant you strength and comfort.

My favorite verse, I think, although that’s a hard choice, in the Bible is from the book of Revelation:

The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let him who hears say, “Come.” And let him who is thirsty come, let him who desires take the water of life without price. Revelation 22:17

A favorite verse from the whole Bible would be difficult... I did mean just for that Psalm...:)

I understand...but my mind got racing to favorite verse..favorite verse in the Psalms...favorite verse in Bible...and that verse popped up and hit me!

LOL.

My favorite whole psalm, though is probably the 23rd psalm. Its images keep sneaking into my prayer poems.

From: The Valley of Vision

Sleep

.....Withhold not thy mercies in the night season;
thy hand never wearies,
thy power needs no repose,
thine eye never sleeps.

.....Show thyself to me as the God of all grace,
love and power;
thou hast a balm for every wound,
a solace for all anguish,
a remedy for every pain,
a peace for every disquietude.
Permit me to commit myself to thee
awake or asleep.

http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/a/l/allprais.htm

All praise to Thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light!
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Beneath Thine own almighty wings.

Forgive me, Lord, for Thy dear Son,
The ill that I this day have done,
That with the world, myself, and Thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed.
Teach me to die, that so I may
Rise glorious at the judgment day.

O may my soul on Thee repose,
And with sweet sleep mine eyelids close,
Sleep that may me more vigorous make
To serve my God when I awake.

When in the night I sleepless lie,
My soul with heavenly thoughts supply;
Let no ill dreams disturb my rest,
No powers of darkness me molest.

O when shall I, in endless day,
For ever chase dark sleep away,
And hymns divine with angels sing,
All praise to thee, eternal King?

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
