2008 Presidential Rundown
vanity | 11-8-06 | rodomila

Posted on 11/08/2006 4:58:08 PM PST by rodomila

George Allen is completely dead politically. He proved what I suspected - that he wasn't smart enough for the national spotlight.

Santorum would have been my first choice but his crushing defeat yesterday rules him out.

McCain is insane and a turncoat on taxes, judges and immigration. Many hard core Republicans, such as myself, would NEVER vote for him.

George W's phony, big government "conservatism" has poisoned the well for Jeb as Bush fatigue is now almost universal.

Hillary MUST BE STOPPED, but if I were a bookmaker I'd have to make her the odds on favorite.

So that leaves four possibilities for the good guys:

Condi Rice is a no go because she isn't sufficiently experienced. Frankly, I don't think she is up to the job and I think she would make Hillary competitive in the South which would be disastrous.

That leaves three sane guys right now with the name ID, credible experience and the brainpower to be Prez:

Newt Gingrich has the conservative bonafides but the media trashed him so badly in 1995 that, like Quayle, he probably can't win. He's also kind of fat and has an annoying, high pitched voice - two things that would hurt him in our superficial media dominated age. Also, the press would have a field day with his personal life.

Rudy has the brains and could be trusted to fight the war on terror. His pro-choice and pro-gay positions are definite downers for me, but would make the northeast competitive for Republicans and really throw a monkey wrench into the Hillary machine. He might be able to finesse these issues with the Republican right if he said social politics should be resolved at the state level and promised to name constructionist judges. He would also have to be solid on taxes, spending, immigration enforcement and economic growth. A little pow wow with Stephen Moore and Pat Toomey at Club for Growth should straighten him out.

The final, and I believe the best choice at the moment is Mitt Romney. I wish he wasn't a Mormon but he has the following going for him. He is running on the right - pro-gun, anti-abortion, pro-marriage etc. He will make us competitive everywhere. He is telegenic and articulate and so smooth on TV. He has been a phenomenally successful businessman. He has impeccable academic credentials. He is also the only Republican option who is still happily married to his first wife. There are those who will claim his record in Massachusetts is too liberal to be the Republican nominee. I would submit to you that politics is the art of the possible, and he did as much as he could do in that bluest of blue states. I for one will be delighted to have a candidate who can explain the issues who doesn't make me cringe during Presidential debates. We haven't had that since Reagan in 1984.

If not Mitt, who? And why? I would love to hear Freeper views if there is any other viable option I haven't considered.

Romney is another big gov't Republican (expanding socialized medicine in MA)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

You realize his plan comes straight from the Heritage Foundation and is the most free market based health plan ever enacted? You realize it demands personal responsibility and not a free ride off of big brother?

For me Romney's religion is a plus and I am a (NON-cafeteria) Catholic. LDS may not be actually Christian but as president, Romney will not promote his particular religion and LDS has been a solid repository of Christian day to day morals and values, even if they get the explanation wrong. Practically speaking we could not do better than a believing Mormon who is guided by his Faith in his choices and policies- and is freemarket oriented. I would, of course prefer a believing orthodox Catholic but Catholic politicians too often run away from their religion to try for the atheist etc. votes or lose it altogether, like Kennedys.
All that said I would have to see a positive response to a Romney candidacy from Baptists and AOG Protestants to believe that Mr. Romney is electable.

Rudy is not a "moderate." He is a leftwing Liberal who happens to be good on law enforcement.

Folks I wonder if we all have grasped what exactly happened, Tuesday?

From the info I am getting here in Ohio, Ohio is now Firmly Blue. How do you change that in two years and if you can't how do you win a Presidential election without Ohio's Electoral Votes?

Good morning!

You are correct thsat Goetz predates Rudy's run as Mayor. HOWEVER, Rudy was the United Stastes Attorney that chose to prosecute Goetz for civil rights violations after a grand jury refused to indict on gun charges.

What is it about some people that instead of learning something they want to prove that they are idiots.

If we were face to face I would try slow baby talk.

Theoretically, any three learned Jews can form a Beth Din. It could be for the purpose of arbitration for example. And the parties consent to its "jurisdiction".

Very large Jewish communities have set up Beth Dins with respected and reputable Rabbis and they judge on issues of Jewish Law.

Here, a Conservative activist (in the political sense) Rabbi, who is a huge publicity hog, created his own TEMPORARY Beth Din for only one purpose- political theater.

It didn't comply with Jewish Due Process. It was meaningless.

If you don't stop making a fool of yourself, I'm going to get two other Jews, were going to convene a Beth Din and declare you a retard.

Maybe Alex Wolf- Rabbinical Scholar/Spy novelist/Talmudic expert- will comment. LOL

McCain is already too old, and has cancer. He also screwed up
election campaigning with his anti-First Amendment McCain Feingold Bill. Thank McCain for MoveOn.org and the idiot Soros. McCain would never carry the South, and he made a fool of himself and gained many enemies in the 2000 primary elections.

I'll withdraw Sanford, but there are many qualified conservative pro-life Republicans to choose from. We don't need to settle for anything less right now.

Your right. I think we will be looking at these type of articles for awhile. One thing for sure is that I am taking polls seriously this time....

Agree with your observations. The conservatives are NOT going to like the Rudy/Mitt ticket, but if we are to win back anything, house, senate or white house, we have to dance with the ugly partner. Rudy has a lot of baggage in his background and the democrats really did an outstanding job in digging up dirt on people in the mid-term elections, but Rudy can handle it. I do not agree with Rudy; but he is definitely adept at handling the corrupt clintons...even if we have to hold our nose during the 2008 presidential election....

Again, your source on this? Please post a link.

As Mr. Wolf stated in his piece defending Lieberman other rabbinical scholars disagreed with him that this was no big deal. But as I said earlier, I can't find any authority that said this was not a reputable Beth Din or saying it was set up for this one political pourpose.

If you have a link to some authoritive source agreeing with you please post it. I'd be interested in seeing it.

You win. You're right.

And for being right I am going to reward you with a secret.

I Sabramerican am in real life Justice Antonin Scalia.

Yes I am.

And to prove it, you can search anywhere and you won't find any link that says that Sabramerican is not Scalia. Id you call the Supreme Court and ask, they are intructed to hang up on you.

So I'm Scalia and that's that.

Want a ruling?

Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota. (Ever heard of Minnesota? LOL!) He is considered one of a handful of contenders for a VP spot for 2008. Although I'd like to see him as candidate for prez.
