Good evening. Great essay.

One thing to consider. The democRATs in either house cannot override a veto. W.'s pen is going to be busy, trust me.

The dems have won a battle in this election. They haven't won a war. It might be good to remind a gloating dem that, "Mission Accomplished," was accolades for a battle won, not a war. A war has many missions.

It is now time to suck it up, find out what went wrong, and correct it. This country will not survive a Pelosi Speaker of the House for long.

The wisdom of Wall Street is that grid lock is good for business. Witness a new record for the Dow today.

I leave with this thought. The democRATs have won an election for Congress the first time in twelve years. Give them kudos, but the real question is, will they be able to govern?

The short answer is, "when pigs fly."

I think somebody important took it away from him when he was inaugurated. I'll buy you a steak dinner for two if he breaks out and uses his veto pen.

" W.'s pen is going to be busy, trust me."

Unfortunately, not on the important issues.

Amnesty, and the NAU are what need a veto, and Bush would sign them ina minute.

Your reflections about this representing a battle won, rather than a war, assume that the average American has any idea regarding what the two sides represent. I don't believe he does anymore. And I believe the power of propaganda has taken on a whole new dimension, given that the power to think and analyze critically is becoming a lost art among the citizenry.

Liars and prevaricators are going to have their way with us unless and until another major tragedy of the scope of 9/11 or beyond occurs, and, by then, it may well be too late to salvage what's left.

With that said, I admire (and always have) your love of this country, but cannot share your optimism (at least 'optimism' in relation to what I see as my own 'pessimistic realism').

Best to you and yours, M Kehoe ...
