Rumsfeld stepping down is a calculated move...and may be a smart one
November 8th, 2006 | Ice Flyer

A lot will be made of Rumsfeld stepping down. The Democrats will be the ones to miss him most. After all, it is Donald Rumsfeld the left made the point man for their hatered of all things Bush. He was vilified because he was effective, says the right. And to those of us in the military he was very effective for a lot of things, and yes, made mistakes in others.

But here's the calculation...Bush disarms the left and the Pelosi steamroller by taking the target off the screen. The democrats roll into power without the ability to strut around ranting about a supposed "mandate" and demand Rumsfeld on a platter. Of course they would hope that the process would take 6-8 weeks. THATS....what they wanted.

The next target will be Cheney and Rove. So, we will see what transpires in the coming weeks. But here's the great news. They really think, because of their inability to hide their unbelieveable arrogance, that Bush is the inferior idiot. They will make the mistake again.

"Or that Rove is a genius?
"

Rove is overrated. John Kerry was a horribly candidate. He was an out of touch elitist liberal with a terrible case of foot in mouth disease. The fact that we came within 180,000 votes in Ohio of losing the presidency to that clown should have set off some warning bells.

Was it really a war?

Good question. Where are the pitched battles? Where are the news of advances on Iraqi territory and the wholesale surrender (or killing) of insurgents/terrorists? Where is the carpet bombing of enemy strongholds?

"Shock and Awe" was, in reality, "Whimper". If a lesson is to be learned from World War II, Germany's and Japan's respective militaries and wills to continue fighting were obliterated by the Allies. That left no room for post-occupation insurgencies or guerrilla operations.

I have been way wrong about this election. I was deluded into thinking that I was a typical Republican Conservative. In my opinion, the voters chose Democrats because they were more scrappy than the civilized Republicans who smugly rise above the fray and refuse to get their knuckles bloody.

It is too late for the Republicans to realize the fact that the press hates them and will not portray them in a positive light, and the best treatment a Republican can expect from the press is no treatment at all. But they did bring this upon themselves by letting Santorum take all the heat for conservative positions. They supported Specter over a conservative last election, they supported Lieberman for God's sake over Schlesinger, they supported nobody at all over Katherine Harris. Face it, for conservatism, Republicans suck!

And don't get me started on the whole Iraq war. I support our involvement, but we shouldn't let the press decide how we prosecute our wars. Embeds were good at the beginning, but allowing the al Jazeera style reporting after we started to civilize the place was suicidal. The Republicans should have closed ranks, and stood up to the media, maybe they could have agreed on a script, like the Dems. The war has been feebly prosecuted, because that al Sadr guy is still alive, and he should have been liquidated over a year ago.

As for the Dems, all I can hope and pray for is that they throw Pelosi and Murtha under the bus and elect some of their so-called moderates to the leadership. As for myself, I did join Perot's Reform party when it started out, and I might be open to a new party for conservatives now.

You are not taking in to consideration that the press hates Bush as much as the Dems do. History is in the eyes of the guy writing the book.

You got that right , the only thing stronger than race to the black man is the Democrat party.

They are owned Lock, stock and barrel by the Dem party. A few of the more intelligent, hard working, deserving blacks have bolted, but the welfare mothers the unemployed and absent fathers, the drug dealers, the people who got affirmative action Gubmint jobs will ever be loyal to the Dems for buttering their bread. They are bought and intend to stay that way.

Just as the people in West Virginia have been bought with US taxpayers funds by Mr. Byrd, and the people of Massachusetts have been purchased with these same funds by Kennedy=-Kerry.

Personal loyalty only goes so far when the Dems start turning up the heat.

Dems don't have committee investigations anymore; they have Inquisitions.

It would be McCain hands down if Chaney resigned. Don't call me a McCainiac it is the cold hard facts. McCain has been slowly but surely gaining key bush campaign folks as well as being a big proponent of bush's amnesty deal and the fact that Bush has been grooming him as his successor. Like it or not that is who would take his place.

I will miss Rummy. His press conferences were a piece of work. He had balls. Cheney has balls. Bolton has balls. They are real men. Articulate and brave. Unfortunately, it looks like most people in this country want a bunch of metrosexual girly-men who pout and throw insults when they don't get their way.

Well, I guess they'll get what they want. God save the USA.

After watching today's press conference, I fear you are right. Bush may be the most dangerous Republican. He wants to make deals with the Democrats without regard to his base. He actually said that he thought it would be easier to deal with a Democrat House than a Republican one on the issue of "comprehensive immigration reform." He will govern with a Democrat majority and bend to their will if they only don't overplay their hand and try to impeach him, maybe even then.

no way. McCain is too smart for that, he doesn't want to have anything to do with this administration.

the smart move for McCain - as Bush moves left to accomodate the Dem congress, McCain moves slightly to the right and offers opposition to some of these "compromises".

that's the way McCain re-established his credibility with the base.

Rove should have been let go today, not Rumsfeld.

"Where are the Patton's when you need 'em?"

They're all over the place ... but the Satanic ones jump on any excuse to accuse, portray, file charges on .. anyone like a man, anyone wanting and willing to fight and win a war, anyone that might have a core set of values and even ... gasp .... may believe in God.

Good Point. Although if tapped he could play "The Happy Warrior" and play it up to the base as him taking one for the team.

Yep, that's the way it's done. That's why Delay stepped aside. Delay didn't count on the activist judges giving Lampson the leg up they did.

Trying to impeach President Bush would be the worse move the Dems could make, because then even you would know WHY we are in Iraq. Right now, nobody seems to have a clue. That's information they don't know, and definitely don't want to know.

Cheney resigns...., Bush appoints Rice, Rice runs for Pres in '08

*happy* *happy* *happy* *happy* *happy* *happy* *happy* *happy*

I love it....

I don't. She's obviously a woman of great intelligence and accomplishment, but I know nothing about her views on domestic politics. Even in foreign affairs, I know that she's been a loyal supporter of Bush's foreign policy, but I also know that her mentor was Brent Scowcroft, a man whose foreign policy actions and stated foreign policy views I don't respect. I'd need to know great deal more about Ms. Rice before loving it.

Cheney was elected. He cannot be "fired," only impeached and removed (will NEVER happen).

Gates is a Bush man. Elder Bush made sure he was kept around by making sure he got the dean post at Texas A & M. At the time it happened, I thought how very strange... wonder what's up with this.

There's a lot more going on here than meets the eye. ;o)
