Neil Boortz is quoted as saying: "So how did I actually vote when I got that provisional ballot in my hand. Straight Libertarian."
Thank you Neil Boortz. Thanks to you and those who think like you, we now have the Democrats in control of Congress. I hope you and your ilk are very happy.
Free Republic is allegedly a CONSERVATIVE web site. Will you libertarians please go somewhere like Lucianne.com, where you can laugh and smile about how you put the Republicans out of power, and leave Free Republic to the conservatives.
Oh, and one more thing.
Neil Boortz -- GO TO HELL.
When done properly, it's called Statemanship. Maybe YOU should pay more attention to history.
LOL! You'll be paying the same higher taxes as the rest of us...like the results?
I prefer Looneytarians.
We are on exactly the same wave length here, Sunsong! Thanks for the link. I have it bookmarked.
Maybe I should pay more attention to my typing!
However, the neglect of Liberty voters and Liberty interests by the party in power led directly to yesterday's result.
Democrats want the most liberal interpretation of the First Ammendment as is possible, but the most conservative interpretation of the Second Ammendment.
Republicans want the most liberal interpretation of the second Ammendment, but the most conservative interpretation os fht first.
Libertarains want the most liberal interpretation of ALL of the bill of rights.
We are more conservative, when it comes to the Constitution, than any of you.
Take your flame-bait elsewhere.
Unless you can point how how ignoring Second Amendment issues is a good Constitutional stance. Or leaving our border undefended. Or proping up billions in unConstitutional spending. Or not reversing the SCOTUS' Kelo decision with property Rights protecting legislation. Or vetoing McCain-Feingold. Or trash canning thoughts of Amnesty for border jumping criminals...
No?
I thought not...
With regard to Libertarian causing the Republican to lose via "third-party siphoning" ...
1. It happens to both major parties. George W. Bush was elected President in 2000 because Ralph Nader siphoned a lot of votes from Al Gore (many more than Buchanan and the Libertarian siphoned from Bush).
2. Moreso, third-party siphoning happens more to the majority party than to the minority party. Minority parties gain cohesion from knowing what they're against. Majority parties lose cohesion because the different elements within the party bicker over priorities. When the President focused single-mindedly on national security (which maybe he had too), and the Congressional Republicans focused on ear marks and other pork barrel programs, and nothing was done for the small "l" libertarians, guess what ... they felt left out. Conservatives didn't get much more (about the only thing I can think of is the fence).
3. Really good politicians know how to appeal to almost all of the people in their base constituencies and enough swing voters. They do this by advancing policies that unite their part of the political spectrum, and making sure that all their key constituencies get something. In 1992 and subsequently, the Gingrich-Armey-DeLay team had such a mix of policies. Candidate George W. Bush had a good mix of policies in 2000. But, over time, the Republican leadership in the House became increasingly dominated by social conservatives and pork barrell spenders (with the social conervatives getting little more than lip service). And, the President had to turn his attention to national security. Reform, cutting back on government, expanding choice and competition in schooling, social security and health care finance ... the things that unite us ... all put on the back-burner.
4. The truth is, even with the heavy burden of the war in Iraq, Republicans weren't wiped out. The Democrats are only barely in the majority in both chambers. In the lower house, the Democrats have a lot of newbies who were elected as conservatives (but I'm not buying it). In the Senate, at least two were elected with a minority of the vote due to the Libertarian Party candidate siphoning votes from the Republican. I think it is fair to say that if the Republicans can re-dedicate themselves to policies that unite us, they can return to power in 2008. On the other hand, if we are still in Iraq, it's Katie bar the door. Americans will be helicoptered off the embassey in Baghdad, and every nation in the world will begin to develop its own arsenal of nuclear weapons.
You are right on the mark. Votes need to be earned by consistent and coherent approaches to the issues. Attacking those whom you have turned off by your own failures to stand fast for principle is ludicrous.
William Flax
Good points!
Dude....I'm a registered Libertarian. However, I voted straight Republican. Can't stand demon-craps.
Is that some sort of circular Libertarian logic? We voted Republican but the Republicans lost because they neglected us.
I agree with you, in spades!!!
OK list those Statesmanship moments wherein a President Vetoed his own parties legislation.
(And remember the further you go back in history to get such an example the further removed you are to the present day media who is hoplessly biased against any Republican president.)
I await your example.
"The claims of Libertarians to be the heroic, lone defenders of the Constitution is both Quixotic, and idiotic"
I don't know that L's pretend to be "lone defenders" of the Constitution, but they are undeniably defenders. Now, I am not a Libertarian, but a Conservative with libertarian leanings. I just looked at the L website though, and it is headed by "Smaller Government, Lower taxes, more freedom." Sounds just like the Gipper to me!

It's nice to know you're happy the Dems are in power. Hope you get all that is coming to you.
I am quite sure they are going to get everything they have coming to them under a Dem controlled congress.
Straw man argument, that. It should never come to a veto. Ronald Reagan was the sort of president who could fire all the striking air traffic controllers, because he said he would, and in doing so he made other countries' leaders take note: "Here is an American president who does what he says he'll do."
And the party followed his lead, even the RINOs...heck, even some Democrats.
