Just one question... (Vanity)

Watching in stunned amazement from the other side of the Pacific, trying to take in the electoral devastation meted out to the GOP, I have only one question (and my inquiry is genuine): How the hell was this allowed to happen?

It's the same country, but the rot at its core will accelerate with Dems in power.

It wasn't *allowed* to happen. It's tough when illegals and dead people vote and the other party still has some integrity.

All this could mean is that the government won't be able to do anything for the next two years; the president still has veto power, the dems don't have enough to override it, and after two years of this, it might be just enough to a Republican sweep in '08. Maybe it's not such a bad thing after all.

OTOH, maybe the end is near and God's getting ready to deal with the Sodom we're becoming.

The "Conservative" media establishment spent all their time whining about what the Republicans were NOT doing they forgot to look at what the Democrats would do.

Pretty hard to win a battle when 40% of your squad spends all it's time shooting it's leaders in the back.

ONE guy was out there fighting for it. GW Bush. The rest of them, including most of the Republican Political Establishment would rather hide or rather hang out on websites or pen columns or scream into microphones about how Bush wasn't doing this or should of done that or should not of done the other.

They forgot how awful the Democrats are when in power. Well they did their best to bring this about, NOW they will spend all their time blaming everyone but themselves for it.

"The MSM won this election. They have been after Bush since 2000 and they finally got their way. Of course, the Republicans and scandals have themselves to blame too!"

That is it in a nutshell. This is the election that the MSM won, aided by many Republicans - not all - who had little courage and sought actions that would bring nice editorials from the NYTimes. Republicans lost their way. They sought not to lead, as the House of 1994, they sought to protect their personal power and thus became much like Democrats. Combined with an unrelenting activist MSM, the outcome was near inevitable.

"You make a good point. How many soldiers are still in Serbia? Since the media doesn't mention it..."

The pro-Iran, pro-Russia, pro-Syria United Nations would be more qualified to answer that question.

Nonsense.

This war is three years old and you use words like "long time"

That is ridiculous.

Moreover, this war has been a huge success by any empirical standard. The media imposed a total blockade on positive interpretations of Iraq. Bush's comments were ample but always deprived of a context of supporters.

Republicans and conservatives have always been happy to collaborate with traitors at the slightest sense of offense (immigration).

Its too bad this McWar didn't meet your high standards.

Yeah the Angry about Immigration people just fired the ONLY people, the US House GOP, who were fighting for their side. They just turned the whole Govt over to the Amnesty NOW! crowd

Man sure going to be tough for the Conservative team to ever win another battle when their squad spends all it time shooting it's leaders in the back instead of the enemy

The southern and red states will rally next election. The dems think they have been given a mandate, they will start by pushing their liberal agendas, this will anger the conservative bases in the red areas and we will rise again. Look at the elections lost, blue blood areas or areas where DNC focused their energies. THe RNC needs to clean up, and we will be fine. If anything it shows we need some party discipline, some good spankings here and there will get us to behave. Besides if I don't pull out my optimism I will drown under my depression. :)

This is the Chemotherapy the GOP needs. Whether or the chemo is successful remains to be seen.

Not now....not in this type of World.

With the MSM banging the dems. drum for a solid year, it would have taken an outright assault by Republican voters. Very sad day for America..sad indeed.

The only thing that I can think of is that the American People evidently wanted the real thing in charge instead of people who were "acting like democrats" while calling themselves "Republicans".

At any rate...we just got the government we deserve. It is said that many of the democrats who were elected were "conservative"..so we can hope that their influence will moderate the lunatics who make up the 'rat leadership.

Pray for the United States, God is still in control.

I think people began to question globalism and just exactly what that meant for the likelyhood of America remaining a free and independent nation rather than just a trade zone.

a message sent to the Republicans,

Which message was it, that we need to select more conservative candidates or more liberal ones?

It is pretty obvious to me looking at results that Libertarians got a protest vote in this election which would have thrown the election to the Republicans.

There are definitely people here at FR who participated in this ridiculous temper tantrum.
