Just one question... (Vanity)

Watching in stunned amazement from the other side of the Pacific, trying to take in the electoral devastation meted out to the GOP, I have only one question (and my inquiry is genuine): How the hell was this allowed to happen?

THE BEST POST I'VE SEEN TODAY:

Republican Congress people are about to be schooled in how to act like the majority.

The failure was not in leadership but in allowing the Dems and the left wing supporters of the Dems in the media to get away with lies, lies and more lies. Tom DeLay and Tom Foley would have been re-elected if they were Dems because they don't have the same moral standards as the GOP does. Once they both quit their seats as they should have, the GOP should have rallied around the replacements and provided support. The Foley scandal should never have been in the news more than a day or two, not two or three weeks. He admitted wrongdoing (sending emails and instant messages to pages who happened to be 18 is not a crime). He quit his seat immediately. That was a mistake.

Tony Snow is an excellent spokesman for the White House. He needed to be out there addressing all the crap in the media daily so the Dems would go back to the issues. The changes in the election were more about the media constantly trashing the President and history on the side of the opponent to a 2 term President. If the electorate knew what the Dems stood for they would not vote for them. Higher taxes, defunding Iraq or God forbid, pulling out, more social programs are all on the agenda in the first 100 days. No reforms of Social Security which is going to be underfunded in about 8-10 years based on the aging population and current liabilities. And the looming angry left will push hard for impeachment.

There should be a quiz for all who vote to address the issues. Most of the voters yesterday had no idea what the next two years will be like.

Most ain't All

Its a war-- were supposed to be on the same side.

It was totally ridiculous.

I voted for him but I am glad DeWine lost-- Republicans like him who call for Rummy's resignation are undermining the war effort and they full well know it.

Why don't you take it up with JD Hayworth, I think he's got some free time on his hands.

You make your silly immigration arguments in the primaries. If they win, then good for you. Bush NEVER campaigned on your nonsense.

Immigration advocates are not loyal-- that helped us lose last night.

I have no problem with making these arguments in the primaries. Immigration advocates backstabbed their party. Let every immigrant come to America and get Dem party benefits now. It is what you planned for.

lonestar67,

Will you be having cheese with that whine?

Again, conservatives REACTED to what Bush and the pubbies have been trying to do to this country WRT immigration. You are blaming the REACTORS rather than the First Cause Actors, Bush & the pubbies.

To use an extreme analogy, if I were to hit you, and then you hit me back, if we use your crap logic here, my broken nose would be your fault, rather than my own fault for starting the fight in the first place.

That's not a perfect analogy, but it shows the correct cause-effect-blame relationship.

I would be a Michael Savage fan if I could stand his unrelenting negativity, misogyny and general cynicism.
That and if I didn't have kids in the car at that time of day...

That is what makes the show so entertaining....but I would not have it on with kids in the car. :)

Right, what was I thinking.

Before Bush became president the Borders were secure and no illegals ever crossed. And then he had that big ribbon cutting ceremony with Vicente Fox opening the new immigration floodgates. They've been pouring in ever since. In fact, I don't think I ever met a hispanic person prior to when Bush became elected-- have you?

I am glad you cleared that up.

I wonder what other realities I am missing out on.

Maybe the one about how Granddaddy Reagan deported all the illegal aliens in the 1980s just like you asked him. Tell me that grand story again would you. I am missing so much.

Immigration advocates are not loyal

They are loyal to the country but not to the elites in the Republican Party.

Your argument seems to be morphing into the "everybody else did it" fallacy that Dims usually turn to when they can't defend their position.

I think if you look at my posts to this board you will find that I have consistently complained that anti illegal immigration advocates have been unreasonable in their demands. I still believe that is true and that such advocates have circumvented a political process wherein they actually field such candidates rather than hijacking candidates without that position.

When Pat Buchannan wins the nomination or Tom Tancredo, I will happily agree with you. Until such time, the anti-illegal immigration crowd was an important factor on why Republicans lost in my opinion.

I agree with you, and that fact needs to be fully understood by Republicans, beginning with the President. However, you are looking at effect, rather than cause. As I said before, the Bush administration and the open border Republicans are the First Cause.

That doesn't mean they are the first and only cause of the illegal alien problem. This administration's failure to make much of an effort to secure the border is what I'm referring to when I say 'First Cause', regardless of any other administration's failures. No blame shifting.
