The one thing that Barone and others have accurately pointed out. It is conservative Democrats, many pro-life, tax cut, some even would not commit to vote for Pelosi.
They have to run conservative to get these wins. That will help make an interesting fissure in the Democrat Party. Liberal Bloggers are also very upset about Ned LamontL Losing.
The Republicans lack of sticking up for Iraq , Immigration or Controlling Spending has cost us.
Loosen the skirt nancy... the night is not over.
I think its mostly the GOP dropping the ball on spending and immigration.
Hardly a consolation. Rove is hardly a MB.
Right and those pro gun pro life dems will lick up what pelosi feeds em...lets not try to look for silver linings...if we lose we lose
I pointed that out to my wife 2 hours ago. Maybe I need to be on TV :-)
My prediction is Dims will win about 20-25 seats tonight, which will leave them with only 5-10 more than Reps. If these Democrats really need to 'look conservatives', Pelosi will have hard time to control them.
Moderates and conservative DemonRats don't exist and they won't exist in a Rat Congress.
Yup...and I, for one, will be totally disgusted if I start seeing the conspiracy theories and whining that we all laughed at from the DUmmies in past elections.
We need a good, hard hotwash, fix what is wrong, and do what is needed for the conservative movement. Period.
We hold both houses. That's the law!
"The Republicans lack of sticking up for Iraq , Immigration or Controlling Spending has cost us. "
And one obvious one - CORRUPTION.
We lost several seats due to personal, corruption or related issues - Weldon, Taylor (v Schuler), the Ney seat, Sherwood, and a few others. We will lose TX-22 for similar reasons.
Dem voters tolerate corruption, GOP voters do not.
A lose is a lose ... this is a wake up call to the right ... quit being liberal lites or the base might as well vote for the real left

Alas, even a 1 seat majority is enough to put the moonbats in charge of committees.
Bush impeachment hearings, here we come!
Lose = loss
Historic trends, tough goings in Iraq, and scandals have made for a bad election cycle. Still, the GOP should keep the Senate and will still control about 48% of the House.
It happens. Nothing Earth-shattering here; the Dems that won are of the blue-dog variety anyways. Time to clean out the dirty laundry and bad rubbish and get to work on '08.
He believed he could substitute passion for compromise, and "grow the base" to a majority.
But the base is not now, never has been, and never will be, a majority.
Either cultivating libertarians (abolish Education, defund the EPA, etc) or placating fiscal conservatives (cut spending, balance the budget) could have carried the day.
Telling both of them to fu*k off was a bad plan.
Presidente Boosh, says you can besa hees coola.
We got pummeled because, in a nutshell, the Republicans governed like Democrats.
It's quite sad. Here in Louisville, one of the hardest working and best congresspersons (Northup) lost to a limosine liberal.
I say, buck up and stop whining like 'Rats. Life goes on. Get 'em next cycle. And remember, next time we're be up against Clinton (mark my words, she'll be there, I don't care what the pundits say) and Obama.
One more thing: Bush has been too gentlemanly. Be blunt about the hostile press. Go on the attack. We need Lynne Cheney on steroids.
A confluence of things but mostly Iraq. The base will have shown up but in borderline districts and states its a steady drone of bad news about Iraq that has the middle of the road people going democrat. Also consider that some seats were left open and bad candidates were left to stand for them.
Still, in a second term mid term I don't see anything that the Dems should be crowing about.
