Microsoft has announced a partnership with Novell and will help promote Linux.
This is stunning. This is like Red Sox fans announcing they're going to root for the Yankees.
Microsoft has spent ten years bashing the free-of-charge open-source Linux operating system and trying to kill it. Now Microsoft is making nice.

Novell. It's a mutual patent covenant with monies flowing both ways.
Is compensation only in cash? How many millions of dollars worth of programming-hours are now in Linux?
Coming from a communist upbringing though, he may not care.
Nice shot at libel again. We've smacked that down so many times, yet you persist.
Money is flowing both ways. Microsoft is paying money to Novell as part of this deal, that includes the patent covenant. And as you seem not to be able to grasp, the covenant includes Novell not suing Microsoft or its customers over infringed patents.
In any case, the only reason I'm not too sure of this deal is that Novell historically likes to shoot itself in the foot. Even if the deal is sweet, the fact that Novell is involved makes it suspect.
With Apple's blessing, or is he trying to hack it? Since you're here defending it, I would almost certainly be sure he is trying to hack it, since defending hackers, including with lies you've outright admitted to about where hackers are from and now living including with lies you've admitted to about where hackers are from and now living, is what you're all about.
I know, but only for licenses of Linux, which you disagreed with and insisted it was a patent royalty, which was obviously just another one of your lies since you can't back up your claim and are getting all weaselly again.
You're now trying to claim Linus Torvald's dad wasn't a noted Communist that studied in Moscow? When have you ever shot that down? All you've ever done is come up with one quote that Linus was embarrased for all the ridicule they received, which obviously doesn't deny the fact he was raised by communists.
I know about the Linux licenses, but I am wondering whether their payment is part patent royalty. I may be wrong, but I'll have to wait until we can actually see the whole terms of the deal. However, you are distracting from the point -- you always claim Linux infringes, but here Novell is promising not to sue over infringements in Windows.
All large software infringes on some patent. Even "Hello World" probably infringes.
He's trying to hack it for interoperability, which is legal. His aim is for other companies to provide FairPlay-protected content to iPod owners without having to go through Apple. You seem to think hacking is a bad thing. Why?
including with lies you've outright admitted to about where hackers are from and now living
You mean the test of your knowledge? Yes, you failed that.
Just admit it, you didn't know where DVD Jon is from, or didn't know your geography, and thought that he was an open source only nut. Admitting you were wrong is fine. Keep it up and it becomes a lie.
You are trying to libel Linus Torvalds by insinuating that he carries communist sympathies and ideals because of his father's communism, when it is widely known that Linus was ashamed of it.
The second-best lie is a fact twisted.
I also noticed you managed to weasel away from the point of Linus' compensation. Care to guess the dollar value of payback in kind in his kernel?
Mostly technical, I'd guess. They've been trying to get away from a DOS-based architecture for a looong time. Why not use a Linux base instead? They no doubt also see the trends, and don't want to get left with a dinosaur OS.
Sound business move.
I'm just pointing out you constantly defend criminal hackers and communists, just as you're doing again here now. You also have a problem with lying, as we saw you try to deny my claim that Microsoft is only paying for licenses, and not ongoing patent royalties, which you now admit was just a guess, an apparently bogus one at that. If you have any more lies or defenses of hackers and communists, I suggest you post them elsewhere.
There you go again, throwing out that word "criminal" when you have not shown that the hackers in that case are even eligible for criminal prosecution for their actions, much less have been convicted of anything. You're lucky libel isn't a criminal offense. And what is this about defending communists?
You also have a problem with lying, as we saw you try to deny my claim that Microsoft is only paying for licenses, and not ongoing patent royalties
Making a statement, being shown it is not necessarily true, then immediately admitting it isn't a lie. It's a mistake. I remember only one case where you admitted a mistake after a LOT of prodding, otherwise you just distract from your lies, like you are doing right now.
It's very hard to clean up after your mess. It's like playing whack-a-mole with your lies because you switch subjects and go on the offensive on unrelated tangents when we confront a lie.
So here's your chance, 'fess up, just for this thread, on the following lies, distortions and unsupported claims:
Why not? Suse is a great distro.
^^^^^^^^^^Enlarging your fonts isn't necessary.^^^^^^^^^^
I don't know if I agree with you. You didn't answer my question.
Who's the furthest to the left in your opinion?
A. Linus Torvalds.
B. Bill Gates.
C. Steve Jobs?
I will agree, admitting it immediatetly is better than some of your other lies, which you have admitted you carried on purposefully for months, but in this case your own link didn't even support your claim LOL.
your lies
Quit changing my words, and twisting the points. Torvalds was raised by communists, and the illegal DVD and MP3 software is typically downloaded from socialist parts of Europe as well. Torvalds was so far out of the loop on this, he claims he wasn't even told it was happening, so don't try to act like he's being properly compensated for all his work, but of course it was his decision to use copyleft verses normal copyright in the first place, one that was terribly foolish whether he's smart enough to realize it yet or not.
Because it's an idiotic question. Stallman, whose various organizations owns the copyright on probably more code in Linux distributions than anyone, is a Green Party member and obviously farther left than anyone. After that probably Torvalds, rasied by communists and still not American even though he works here, and gives his code away to communist China and Cuba etc for free. Then probably Jobs, since Gates has given thousands of dollars to Republican party offices all over the country, I doubt any of the others have ever given a dime.
It mentioned money flowing both ways and a two-way patent covenant, simple mistake. But you going this route is still a misdirection from your always claiming Linux infringes, while ignoring that Windows is being protected against infringements by this deal too.
Torvalds was raised by communists
True, but your associated insinuation is wholly unsupported. As I said, the second-best lie is the truth, twisted. It's a hallmark of Michael Moore's work. Now you have more in common with both Michael Moore and Stallman than any of us do.
and the illegal DVD and MP3 software is typically downloaded from socialist parts of Europe as well
You're misdirecting again. What does the server location have to do with anything? The issue I brought up is that DeCSS isn't a patent issue as you claimed, but an issue of the industry-purchased DMCA that violates our fair use and first sale rights.
so don't try to act like he's being properly compensated for all his work
Again, what is the cash value of the programming hours that produced the code contributed to Linux by other people? I'm sure it's in the millions.
You also forgot to address DVD Jon's location, that Linus lacks in concern for protecting his work and me supposedly saying where Fyodor lives.
but of course it was his decision to use copyleft verses normal copyright in the first place, one that was terribly foolish
If he hadn't then none of us would have ever heard the name Linux, as Linus' "Freax" OS* would have just remained his little hobby and neither it nor he he would be internationally famous.
* That goes to an earlier lie from you, when you said Linus gave Linux its name.
