Something on the tube earlier about Gibson winning some major directors award for "Apocalypto"
I was riveted by the final scene. The father tried to save his own skin by disavowing all parental responsibility and willing to make his son, who did commit the murder, bear the price even though he incited and organized it. I was utterly disgusted. Nothing excused what the boy did but a parent should willing to put their love for the child ahead of their own welfare. So much for blood being thicker than water. If my child, heaven forbid, murdered someone, I would still love him and do everything I could to be there for him even as I recognize he is responsible for his own actions. And if a parent does evil, he too is responsible for his actions before God and his own family. We do have an obligation to honor our parents but we are not obligated to respect them if they teach us something we know to be wrong and command to do it. Our duty to God supercedes all ties of flesh and blood.
