No, I don't believe for a moment or meant to imply that he was "set up". This accuser has a purpose. Haggard should never have given anyone offense against him. Now he has "shipwreaked" his ministry as Paul would say.
Lead us not into temptation.

It is past time. Christians need to focus on Jesus Christ, not the celebrity preacher/Christian fad du jour.

Bakker has to lead a quiet life. He is forbidden to run a church. He was doing some speaking but I hear he got warned off by the law. Have you seen him on television recently? I caught his show by accident around the end of 2004. He was bald and appeared emaciated when I saw him. Time has not been kind to Jim Bakker.

You are wrong. People are looking to Dobson for some response. In fact, his wb site was so bombarded earlier today that it was down. Dobson has not responded to this situation out of ego.

"The prostitute admitted in an article in the Denver Rocky Mountain News that he has known who Haggard was for months and timed it to correspond with the election so as to influence voters."
I know I am repeating myself, but it is possible that this prostitute, being gay AND a prostitute, didn't like the church or the preacher! It would not be unusual for a homosexual, even in govt. to set up others who disagree with them. In Chicago recently a woman was murdered who worked at a church for just that reason.
I wait for proof. This is a Minister, he may not want to reveal it all yet, or may not want to condemn the guy outright, or take a stand or say something that can be further spun.

I'm not a Catholic, but I don't worry about the Pope doing anything stupid like this. You ought to check into papal history. If papal tradition counts for anything, you just might find a reason to worry.

I wouldn't classify him as a celebrity preacher. I am from CO and nearby his church. I have certainly heard of his church but never heard of him until yesterday.

The ministry/priesthood will always attract a certain subset who are trying to fight their demons by choosing a life in the church. Unfortunately, they often fail

I disagree, but that's neither here nor there. Dobson may do as he pleases, as may I.

Ted Haggard's church is in Colorado Springs, the same town that Focus on the Family is. They both work closely together on many projects. James Dobson could not be silent on this because the Christian's who know Dobson know he is very close to Haggard. It is not about ego, I assure you of that.

I never cared much for Bakker prior to the scandal.
But, I have gained immense respect for him since his release from prison. He seems a changed man.
He confessed all in his book "I Was Wrong" and he makes no excuses now for his behavior 20 years ago.

Why try to reason with an atheist about such matters? He's just relishing the fact that Haggard has fallen, and is wanting to pile on to other well-known Christians like Dobson.
Best to ignor him.

Again, I disagree. Dobson is all about ego, in my opinion. But you may take my opinion for whatever you think it is worth.
Yes, Haggard, Dobson, and the rest are quite close. After all, this Haggard was the head of the NAE. He did not come to that without the help of influential friends.
Yes, Dobson needed to make some sort of statement. He really had no choice. It is the nature of the statement that he had control over.
Dobson is a psychologist, not a minister. He just plays a minister on TV, it seems.

Dobson's ministry was probably getting flooded with calls.
His international ministry has its HQ in CO Springs, as does Haggard's.
For this reason, it was appropriate for him to speak up as many of the 30,000,000 evangelicals in the orgranization were probably looking for Dobson's opinion.
To: Alex Murphy
I think you're talking ancient history.
